Help with possible shafting on a trade

Post by Jawn »

Hey everyone, I'd like to pose a question before I fire off a PM to a moderator because I think I might just be impatient.

I'm involved in a trade with another BT user who has had good refs thus far from other users - even PMed them to get further details. So I pulled the trigger on a trade with them, with me shipping out first due to my lack of references. I shipped out on June 7th, an event occurred on June 13th on their end preventing them from possibly completing the trade on time, and then my side of the trade was delivered and accepted on June 15th. Now it seems I'm dealing with two different people in two different states and there is just a complete lack of clear communication.

I'm unsure if its too soon to file a BTR but I'm pretty sure I've lost out on a large amount of models. Am I just being impatient or do my concerns seem valid? Any advice you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.
If you're not interested in the purchase/sale/trade, then please say so.
Not responding is inconsiderate and wastes everyone's time.

Let me see if I've assessed the situation correctly. I'm using the information you provided and personal experience to come to my assessment. Forgive/correct me, if I have anything wrong here:

You came to a trade agreement with someone. Before, during or after the deal was struck, you found out that he did not have the items in hand & was waiting to receive them from a third party. That third party is having issues sending to YOUR trade partner and, as a result, your trade partner is having issues sending to you.
Does that about sum it up?

First - It's not against the rules, but is a VERY bad idea, to trade ANYTHING not in your possession. While it's not necessarily something to hold against him, it's a poor decision on the part of your trade partner.

Second - It's a bad idea to agree to send ANYTHING to someone who does not have your items in hand. Very bad. If you sent your stuff with the knowledge that he was waiting to receive the stuff that you would receive... learn from this mistake.

Third - WHO the trader is matters as much as the details of when your items were shipped and when HIS should have been. Porkuslime has a 2000+ rating; If it was HIM having this issue, I'd chide him for making that "rookie" mistake, but would totally trust him. Someone with 25 or less trades under their belt or with negative ref's? Much less comfort there. Same thing goes for the guy he is waiting on.

My advice is to PM a staff member and give them the person's User ID & specifics of what's going on. We can give far better advice that way.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.
