New Meanderings

Post by YoungWolf777 »

I've always thought it was a bit of a shame that more creative stuff didn't get posted here on BTown. So in an effort to improve that, here is my latest WIP, a humble Ork Trukk kitbash between 3D printed parts and the bed from the plastic kit. Still a ways to go, but it's taking shape nicely, especially as I haven't painted seriously for over a year now.

That's pretty awesome.

The pictures are well done too. Any tips on getting good pics of models?

I second both the statements and the question!

Thanks!
I'm just using the pop-up light booth from GSW: https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/ligh ... immer.html

And their Maxx Darth Black backdrop: https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/back ... 455mm.html

For the photo settings, I've been working with this guide I found: https://www.instagram.com/p/DF8Dkk7tdyX/?img_index=1

Using Adobe Lightroom rather than the default Camera app on the phone has given me a lot more control over the exposure and such. I'm still tweaking things, but it's much better than what I was capable before. I'm using an iPhone 12.

I am currently looking at options for a third light down low to illuminate overhangs like the sides of the trukk. Those didn't come out well.

Finished the crew for Trukk #1. Lights are blowing out a few things like the heat staining on the barrel, but I can't be bothered to fix it right now.

Trukk #1, aka "Da Rippa" is complete. There's still lots of minor tweaks that could be done, but I gave myself a 2 week deadline and I'm happy with it. Still debating whether to mount my Trukks (and Battlewagons) on bases. It solves a few problems, but means they need to be decorated and the wheels pigmented to match, etc... Maybe someday. Today is not that day!

MrModulork parts:
Trukk Kit A and Accessories = Trukk cab, chassis, driver body and plow
Orc V8 Buggy = Engine
Orc Battle Bus = Rooftop gunner
Klaw Arm and Wrecking Ball = Wrecking ball

EightLegsMiniatures:
MadScrapTruck = Rear wheels
Orkz Heavy Armoured War Wagon = Front wheels

Games Workshop:
Trukk = Trukk bed

Love it! The weathering effects are really well done. The tires look real. Very nice!

You going to keep a tally mark on it somewhere for the number of times it's blown up and the boyz have to rebuild her? :-D

Maybe. I tried to show that with the use of different colored (or non-painted) panels like it was all yellow in the beginning and now not so much. :)

Next Trukk (#2) WIP. Feeling a bit uninspired by this one as I left it mostly stock. Metal parts are all based and the wheels are mostly finished. Trying to keep my momentum to get to more fun things to paint.

Trukk #2 done. Yes, it's not done to the standard of the first one. I can't make myself care about this one. I'm pretty confident I'll add it to the Ork sale I'm planning. It's great for "tabletop" standard.

An oldie but goodie finally finished. Printed Baron Gigantus around 2.5 years ago to test the then brand-new Atlas Vulcan Resin that I backed on KS. I wasn't happy with the resin and I hadn't yet dialed it in for smaller layer heights than 50 micron. I didn't bother after my tests didn't prove fruitful. I primed him and painted him to test out various skin color schemes as he's mostly exposed skin. I think he came out pretty well all things considered.

Baron G will be a warboss in my Rokka mob. The sonic assault from the loudspeakers will count as a power klaw. 😄

I dunno...I can't see anything wrong with the print. But you're probably like me...I know every single flaw in every single project that I do, and I'm hard on myself about them. I think he looks awesome, and will do sum reckin' on da tabul.
