Building WWI board 15mm

Greetings all,
Trying to build a board (4x8) for 15mm WWI... trenches, no-mans land, etc... possibly even with removable hills with some tunnels/rooms "underground"... has anyone made something like this. Looking for suggestions if I should create a board with some depth that is easier to carve out tunnels, etc... or if it is better to just build up "hills" or something around where trenches will be.... Anyway, would love to see some pics if anyone has done something similar. Thank you!
