PAINTING 15mm AWI FRENCH Uniforms

What color primer, base paint, wash and dry brush would you use? Would you paint 7YWar/FIW any differently? The former seems to have more of a white than the grey of the latter. Is this actually historically correct? I understand that the uniforms produced in this period had no color fast colors. I also understand that unwashed linen would look more grey than white. I was looking at a popular miniatures magazine covering the AWI. The models are not shown up close looked like a more whitish white, but the illustrations were greyer because of a shade (?) or something used over the white to give a grunge effect. Not very helpful.
