Flocking many models

I have flocked a few models. I dont like doing it. However in order to get full credit in the BT Member Challange they need to be flocked. Im looking at over 100 Marines that I want to be done and Im sure if I get this rolling Ill move onto my orks, IG and my BA allied list.

So does anyone know of a way to flock many models quickly?? The ones I have done in the past were down with watered down Elmers white glue and a old paint brush. I than ran the model through some ballast rocks. Once the glue dried I was done.

I actually like to simply paint the tops of my bases with a neutral color... say a brown and then apply the flock. once it is dry I do the outside of the bases... then clear coat.not sure it takes less time... but I don't need to worry about if the glue is dry... the paint dries faster

Flocking quickly:
Rocks: use regular Elmer's glue.
Light(mossy) Flock: 50/50 glue.

Apply the glue to 10 models at a time and put them directly in the flocking tray. My trays can hold ~50 models standing next to each other.
Once dry (30 minutes/1 TV show) pick each model up and shake. If it looks the way you want it to, you're done. If not, add more glue and repeat.

The good thing about painting the bases first is that, if you're not picky, you're done after one trip through your desired basing material. Whatever color you painted with shows through, which can look like dirt (through grass), more ground (through rocks of whatever sort) or -if you paint the same color as your basing material- might just blend in with the basing material color.

Good advice given above, only thing I'll add in my experience paint holds the flock/gravel better then white glue in the long run.

Im using what is called ballast. Bought from a local train model store. I think it is just very small rocks almost like bird shot.

if you want to do better than ballast.. there are tons of "found items" you can base with.. I have several mixes I use for a variety of armies.

I can make the list if you are interested in branching out..

I use sand for non-grassy coverings. It's small, not dusty like ballast (which I have, as well), and easy to work with.

Just an FYI. Don't use cat litter. I forgot how absorbant clean cat litter was. It took up a lot of glue and paint. But did look alot like little rocks, not sand. [points if you catch the reference.]

I paint all the outer rims of the entire army,,can do 100 in a hour ,then with the same color I paint the top of the base then dip the still wet base into my tub of flock/grass mix ,boom,takes bout 30 seconds at most per base top

Has anyone ever tried coloring white clue with paint? I have great luck with white glue per my post, but I'm wondering if you could get seriously good depth of field (vision) with colored glue...
