I'm looking to make some orkish terrain, I know the simple solution is to use plasticard or cardboard etc but for some really ramshakle terrain I'd like to fine something to use as a miniature version of that wavy side paneling you sometimes see on sheds like this: http://img.archiexpo.com/images_ae/phot ... 290431.jpg

I'm also interested in other kinds of materials, gears, steel girders, chains, etc to make ram shackle buildings for orks.

I'd also like some kind of way to make fake boards to make picket fences.

Evergreen Scale Models makes plasticard. I know they did, at one time, make plasticard in the wavy pattern you're looking for.
Another option for the wavy stuff is cardboard. The layer in between is wavy like that. Gently peel off the top layer, then coat it with watered down white glue to solidify it.

As for your picket fences; have you thought about popsicle sticks or balsa wood? Just cut it in the lengths you want & your set. You can use white glue to hold them together. If you want something that looks like anils, you can use push pins. You'll have to trim the length, but the heads will look like large nail or spike heads sticking out of the wood.

For Fantasy: If you can get a copy of the "General's Compendium" it will have detailed instructions on how to make Orc terrain on pages 53 and 54.

For 40K: I would go with the corrigated cardboard that MagickalMemories was talking about. You can find that in most heavy duty boxes. This makes a good representation of sheet metal once it's painted up.

The easiest way I would put together a 40k ork building is make a standard building out of a small box or foamboard and start glueing bitz and other misc pieces to it in a random order. Here's a link to how GW does their Ork scenery. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... d=11100006

The nice thing about Orks is "you can't go wrong with more bitz".

Another option for crude fences is to simple go out in your yard and pick up some smaller sticks and use them to create the fence.

You can used a piece of foam as the base and glue the "posts" in place and then notch out the rails to fit and glue them in place.

Feed heavyweight paper/cardstock in, scale corrugated metal out. Repeat as often as needed.

It's cheaper than the sheet styrene and faster than peeling cardboard. Not a terrible investment if you are looking to make a lot of the corrugated metal for your terrain.

Do you have one? I'm wondering how you know it'll give it the corrugated look. I couldn't tell by looking at the listing.

I do have one - I haven't used it a lot, but it did work out pretty well. My experience was that lighter weight card or heavier paper worked pretty well. A couple of the amazon reviews attest to the fact that if you try to run cereal box through it, it will probably break.

I don't think Fiskars had terrain building in mind during the design phase

I'll see if I can dig it out tonight and run a piece of paper through it/post a picture.

EDIT TO ADD: Not able to track it down last night. Goal is to liberate my basement from the moving clutter this weekend, so I'll keep an eye out for it.

Not the greatest picture of the crimper in action, but it will give you the general idea.

I know you can get plenty of gears from cheap pull-back cars, as well as an actual metal strip that you can just throw somewhere as part of a junk pile, or since it's already curled, use pieces of it as bands to put around bundles of steel rods or rokkits or something.

Evergreen scale models has some sizes of I-beams and H-columns, but Plastruct has an even better variety, including huge ones I use as the backing of reinforced rams for my trukks.

As for chain, craft stores like Hobby Lobby have a variety of jewelry chain, but you'll be looking for the smaller-linked chain that looks like regular everyday oval-link chain. I use it quite a bit, and it comes in packages of 5 foot segments.

on a side note, next time you head down to Tim's store, there is a train/hobby store behind the sheetz that i've bought materials from. you might wanna check it out.

I'll see if I can ge tpics. 1 of the older, yes older than me, GW ork players, builf a airship for Gorka Morka. He's been playingorks since GM was 1st released. He'sretired and has spent the past monthes finishing up this project. It's huge. He had it out a couple monthes ago and I'm pretty sure someone took picks. He's also made MekTown.

All scratch built using materials available from local craft or home improvement stores.

it's over 3 feet long and takes 2 people to move and comes in several parts.

That Ork dirgible is freaking AWESOME!!!!! I had an idea for a smaller version but I haven't seen one of that scale before!
