Hey all.
Lately I've been doing an increaed amount of Greenstuff and Brownstuff sculpting and gap-filling on my models. Mostly Marine armor joints and such, but a couple small creations as well.
I think I've sort of hit the limit of what i can pull off with the back edge of an Xacto blade, and a brush handle.
Can anyone suggest a solid sculpting tool, or set of tools? Something I could pick up at the local Michaels or AC Moore would be great, though I'm not adverse to online purchases.

Hit up your dentist for old worn-out (to them) tools. I have a whole bucketful of them, but I only ever use 2~3 of my "go-to" tools.

After that, pick up a set of Clay Shapers. There are other places to get them, shop around.)

I use the black tips (extra firm) as well as the grey tips (firm) in both the large and small sizes for roughly 60~70% of my sculpting work. Nothing sticks to them, including putty. They do need to be lubricated, but not nearly as much as metal tools. I use the metal tools to get a rough shape of what I want and then the clay shapers to finish it.

Ah, I'd seen the clay shapers mentioned before. Forgot all about them.
I'll have to see about the dentist thing. Not sure how I'd broach that subject during my twice-yearly isits

In all honesty the "scultping tool" that GW and others sell is a good utility tool, and happens to be a dental instrument. That one metal tool is good for the majority of what I sculpt with a metal tool.

I've seen the used dental picks sold at auto parts stores, $ stores and even a few drug stores.

All great suggestions, I also recommend head to the local pottery store, or Michales pottery section, I always find good stuff there
