DKOK - using Imp Guard Rules

I love the look of the Death Korps of Krieg, but want more flexible (and tournament usable) rules. I decided, like so many I am sure, to run DKOK using the standard Imperial guard rules. Since the DKOK really look like WWI/WWII German infantry I wanted to keep the theme going with my other options. DKOK do not get Chimera's but using them as Imperial guard, I definitley wanted some of these for my list. Dave Taylor (http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com/) did a nice trukk conversion a while back - and I saw this as the perfect base for some Half-Tracks as Chimera's for my army. Here are some pics:

I have the DKOK Trench Gunner with an autocannon in the turret. I am thinking of magnetizing the ammo/mag feeds on the autocannon so I can use it for "counts as" Heavy bolter, multi-laser etc.

I tried to use as many GW parts as possible to help with the whole 60% GW rule for tournaments, so even if plasticard made sense I tried to use GW Bits.

I like a lot of what you did here.
I think you may have been overly concerned about the 60% rule, though, because I think that only counts if you're using models that aren't GW as part of your model.

Regardless, it looks pretty good. I have some questions/thoughts, though:

1) Would love to see the bottom of the vehicle to see what you did to attach the tracks.
2) Is the rear top removable? If not, how will you paint the rear interior?
3) Not a big fan of using the Trukk tires as they come. I think that, at the least, I'd have removed the spiked nubs.
4) Nice rivets!
5) How does the driver see?
6) There is no number 6.
7) My first inclination was to not like the Trukk lights on the front. After giving them a good look, though, I really DO like them. A lot.
8) I like the way you used the Battlewagon doors & the lid for your hood.
9) I am not a fan of your mounting point for the Heavy Bolter. You findered yourself too much on range of fire. Looks good, though.

Thanks for the comments:

1) Would love to see the bottom of the vehicle to see what you did to attach the tracks.
Took a non model builders approach here. I connected the tracks with brass tube. Then I built a box of plasticard to cover things up. Definitley no worky
bits there but it is serviceable.

2) Is the rear top removable? If not, how will you paint the rear interior?
Yes, the whole top part on the back section is just tacked in place.
3) Not a big fan of using the Trukk tires as they come. I think that, at the least, I'd have removed the spiked nubs.
I have actually recently purchased some replacements from a guy on Ebay who does his own sculpts. I like them a lot more. Need to put
them on and see how it looks.

4) Nice rivets!
These are actually molded. Grandt Line scale models. I used to do hole punch rivets, but these are MUCH smaller and better scale.
5) How does the driver see?
LOL. I planned on putting some thin strip around it as a window, or maybe making a small visor/slit like in an armored car.
6) There is no number 6.
I am sure there is a joke here that I am not understanding....
7) My first inclination was to not like the Trukk lights on the front. After giving them a good look, though, I really DO like them. A lot.

The headlights were all Dave Taylor's idea. the BW door and Rhino engine cover were mine in an attempt to create additional GW %.
9) I am not a fan of your mounting point for the Heavy Bolter. You findered yourself too much on range of fire. Looks good, though.[/color]
I am not a fan either. The orginal had it mounted in the passenger window, but it just looked impossible to use. I thought about maybe using another cupola over the passenger side, or maybe using pintle mounted stubber bits to make it look like a cupola. Just not sure.

Do they have Orky looking rivets?
Link?

I like the idea of a cupola, but I don't think it works for practicality purposes.
If you put a cupola in, there's no reason to put a wind shield on that side of the truck, as it would be unusable to the driver. So, if you've only got it on the driver side, his entire field of vision is gone on the right side of the truck. He won't be able to see past/through the cupola.

Looking at it further... you're kind of screwed.
Functionally, putting in a cupola is the best option. it throws off some of the reality of the situation but... Eh... It's just a game.
Alternatively, you could build up the passenger front fender, over the tire, and mount it there. Of course, then, you run the risk of making it look like it would block the "hood" from opening.
Underslung, beneath the winch, might be doable, but I'm not certain it would look right.

Yeah. The spot where you have it MIGHT just be the lesser of all the evils.

Here is the link to the Grandt Line site. It is their "augmentables Line" (http://www.grandtline.com/model_railroa ... _pages.htm)
I will take a look at see what sizes I used on these - as I ordered a bunch because I was not sure which would scale the best.

Of course I was not the first person to think of using the Wargames Factory Greatcoat stormtroopers models for DKOK. But rather then stand-ins for the awesome Forgeworld models, I have decided to use these guys as conscripts in my list. Here are some examples converted up with standard cadian bits:

they look more like storm troopers than conscripts to me....but awesome! Man, I really like the ideas here. If you gave them shotguns, I could totally see fielding them as veterans/arbites.

If they don't come up with some plastic stormtroopers in April, I might use this to make some Inquisitorial stormtroopers.

Thanks for sharing!
