Replacement tank for Forgeworld Apoc tank

Post by 3eland »

Apologies if this isn't in the right category.
So as I do not wish to pay the horrendous prices on FW I was wondering if anyone had any info on finding a replacement tank of similar size that I could "deck out/modify" to fit my needs. Any tank would do but anything closely related to the tank in the picture would be much better. I am just not sure what scale size I should be looking into.
Thanks ahead of time!

Are you looking for a 3rd party tank to modify to look like that or do you want that tank and not pay FW prices?? If 3rd party Im not sure what scale to use. If you want that tank GW makes one in plastic sold here:

Yes I know its over $100 but if you know what your doing you can use magnetts and build all the tanks shown.

I'm looking for a 3rd party tank. Doesn't have to look exact obviously but even the proper scale size would help determining what I can get. Someone told me 1/72 was similar but as I have only ever dealt in 25 and 28mm I have no clue what exactly that means :( I also googled 1/72 scale tanks and obviously I googled wrong because I couldn't find dimensions for anything lol

I did not know GW made a plastic version of the FW models, thanks for that!

Only a few FW are made by GW in plastic. The Shadowsword (the one you want) and the baneblade come to mind. However, a quick FW site visit shows that the baneblade is no longer made in resin. If you still want to go FW I would advise waiting and buy at a GamesDay event if you can. You pay that day and walk out that day with the model. The cost is the same but you dont have to wait for shipping.

3eland,
For a 3rd party "close to", you might want to look into the WW2 tank hunters such as the German Jagd Tiger, German Elefant, Russian SU-122 or the late war superheavy German Maus. They're similar in configuration to the GW Apoc. Considering that the Imperial superheavies are supposed to displace 100s of tons and be as large as a very roomy house, you might investigate the previously mentioned in the 1/48 scale (railroad O scale). I believe Tamiya and AFV Club (?) have models in that scale. If 1/48 seems a bit small, the next up is 1/35 with a wider range of models available.
Naturally, you'll be needing to tweak them quite a bit to get that GW overgunned WW1 feel but that's what the bits box is for.
Good luck and have fun with it.

A later PS - dug around a bit and according to the Warseer website, a 40K Baneblade measures 9.5 ins long and 7.5 ins wide (including the sponsons). A 1/35 Jagd Tiger goes about 12 ins long (which includes a very long barrel) by 4.3 ins wide. Might give you an idea as to scales and sizes.
Personal Guidelines:
PayPal or MO are both welcome.
No trouble with Canadian or overseas orders. Just please be aware of the extra time and postage costs involved.
Significantly lower rating ships/pays first - this goes both ways.

I don't know the dimensions off hand but I'm sure if you did around you can find them, here's another option to look at

Tanks are way easier than most things to find a good, cheap toy for-- especially the size of a superheavy, and you'd probably be able to use some action figure's tank, with some modification.
