Obsession

Post by kalamire »

So I am curious to see if other people have the same obsession as I do when it comes to collecting a army. 14 years ago I got into 40k, and played the Iron Warriors (Back when they actually had their own rules). I loved the concept of the IW, the colors, fluff, just everything about them. Money was better back then and I could just go in weekly and buy more models. By the end of it I had 25,000 points of IW. Every troop, heavy, elite, fast, etc. I had built and painted the entire 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th company. (yes that’s over 400 marines) I really stopped caring about the rules and went more towards the love of painting and converting. So, years later I stopped playing 40k and sold my models thru various lots on an auction site, now I’m working on WM Khador.
So, the question is does anyone else just keep collecting and building for the love of a specific army, If so what army and game.

Kala,

I collect Imperial in the bigger sense of the word.

I have at least a Platoon of every Imperial guard regiment. Generally a lot more.
I also have an army of pretty much every other imperial faction out there. Adeptus Mechanicus (Necrons), Adeptus Arbites (Grey Knights), Sisters, Inquisition (Grey Knights), Grey knights, pretty much every loyal first founding Space marine chapter and all the ones with their own books.

Only stuff I really need is some more Elysian drop troops, and an Adeptus Custodes army which I was going to do as Grey Knights but I already had like 3 other armies based on that book. Still might do it but Emperor Wing (Draigowing) is kinda boring to play.

I am not saying that all this stuff is painted but I have the models...and a very large painting que...

Last time we did a 40k of 40k Apoc game i fielded 20k of my IG and I hadn't used half. Then again that was mostly super heavies and tanks. I have about 1000 pewter Infantry and about 500 Cadians. I think about 50,000 points.

Most of my SM armies use the same tank pool.
I would estimate my SMs at about 50,000 points

Sisters at about 5000
AdMech (Necrons) 5000
Titan Legions 6000

I have a bit of a plastic crack addiction.

Sir that is more than an addiction, it is now a life style. That's alot of points I had a buddy back in the day with 20k worth of Necrons and we always wanted to set up a game and see if White Dwarf would publish the pictures. This was over ten years ago so way before apoch games it would have been cool. You ever thought about submitting pictures to be published?

Fortunately, I have system and faction ADD, so I rarely accumulate too much for any one army. Too much, of course, is a relative term - my Orks have a mere couple hundred boys (but not nearly enough vehicles, which I keep meaning to correct), while my Marines are not even half that. My WM/H armies are fairly spread out too - only a couple of factions have more than 100 figs, though most are in the 75-100 range. (Admittedly, I do have all of the WM/H factions, contracts and compacts, but that's something else.)

I envy those with large, dedicated collections - I just can't do it, myself.

I was considering trying to make the entire Winterguard Leigon, But I dont think I can bring myself to owning that many Winterguard models.

I was up to about 4k in Necrons before the new codex, with the DEEP discounts to all my warriors, monoliths etc I'm down to about 2500 with a bunch of boxes waiting to be assembled >< need to get back in the productive mode but I've been spending alot of time reading the horus heresy series and can't seem to stop.

My problem is finding an area to take a picture of the stuff. My man cave is way to cluttered. I have wall to wall bookshelves and it's still a mess.

I have had to build shelves in my furnace room and stacked the stuff in project boxes.

I have been thinking about doing a closet cleaning.
