@Arma: Yea, I found the sprays at FMP. I was totally shocked they actually have them as live stock. 90% of the stuff on their website is special order only and takes like a month to get to you. And, no, I didn't find anywhere to do international shipping from so I bit the bullet and ordered from FMP.

@Ironhide: The reason I use Army Painter sprays is they speed up base coating a LOT. Especially on things like Land Raiders, Dragons, and the like. Painting on gesso smoothly on a big vehicle would drive my bat-spit crazy.

@MM: I DO buy cheap(er) grey and white primers from the hobby store here. It's about $8 dollars a can. However, like I said to Ironhide, when I need to do an army worth of models, and especially if that army contains big stuff, the time savings from using Army Painter sprays is worth the cost. (I don't own an airbrush.)

So, then, if you have other primers available, why are you specifically trying to get Army Painter brand?
Not knocking them or anything. I just don't know enough about them.

Thanks!

Because Army Painter do COLOR spray primers in many different colors that all roughly match up to an equivalent in the citadel paint line. It makes it easy to basecoat and since it matches with a regular brand paint it makes touch-ups simple. After spraying I don't have to re-basecoat the entire model to ensure any touch-ups I need to do match the basecoat.

Okay, one misconception I'm seeing on gesso. While you do have to brush it on, gesso shrinks as it dries; which means you can slop it on and when it dries it will shrink to fit and it will be smooth. I've done this to my Rhinos and Razorbacks, and never had a problem.

why would you buy TAP primers cans when you can get cheap (meaning less expensive) Tamiya and Mr. Hobby products easily available?
Mr. Surfacer 1200 is the best primer in can available, period. while it costs anywhere between 14 and 30& a can here in US, you can find them at 700 yens in Japan...
Also, i've been using Tamiya color cans, they're just great, though you still need a basecoat...

@jul: You'll notice in one of my previous posts I said I buy white and grey primer from local sources. That is Mr. Surfacer.
I have tried Tamiya's spray color and the problem is they are spray PAINT and not spray PRIMER. Army Painter color sprays are primer so I am willing to pay for convenience.

i saw it, wasn't sure if you knew Japan has the best of the best in primers. i tried once to spray tamiya as a primer, worked well on a degreased model, not that much on a shinny one, the grey plastic will also darken the color...
