Information on Kings of War

Post by 3eland »

So I played a game of Kings of War today and generally enjoyed it.

Unfortunately I have been converting my fantasy models to round bases for AoS. I found some trays online that allow you to rank up round bases. I know Kings of War has specific tray dimensions for troops/regiments/hordes. What I am wondering is how exact do those trays need to be? I rebased some cavalry on the biker bases. Same width, longer length. Is this a problem?

I'd love to be able to use my models for both KoW and AoS, but I like the round bases. They make the models pop so much more, so if I can continue to rebase them on round I would prefer that over rebasing them back on the square.

Any help you guys can offer is much appreciated!

Ryan

P.S. - Are the back to basix conversion trays good? That's the trays I found online that allow round models to rank.

Having deeper base is not really a problem, you just have a little more chance of getting flanked but again it's not that much I assume. It's the same thing for monsters, 50x50 is sometime too small to accomodate the model and it's accepted to use larger base as long as it make sense and that you're not just trying to to hide units behind due to the larger base.

Glad you like the rules, they're my goto for fantasy games nowaday.

Hmm. Well the round bike bases are 72mm long while the square are 50mm long. So a Regiment of cavalry would be 142mm vs 100mm. I feel that would definitely effect flanking. Thing is though, does it actually matter enough to rebase? The front width is identical, which i think is the biggest thing?

Yeah I enjoyed playing it. There is a local group that does Fantasy 9th (essentially you use 8th books ad 8th rules but with fan made changes) but as a Vampire Count player, I just stomped through people. KoW seems more balanced. Monsters and Cavalry don't get one shot by warmachines, magic isn't so OP, you don't lose casualties, etc. It made it feel like it wasn't so punishing.

So if I can get everything to work for AoS (which I do enjoy) and KoW, then I'll be happy :D

I dont think it matters enough to rebase unless you are maybe going to a tourney. But what do i know I'm playing it in 15mm :-D

Yeah I don't think I would go that competitive.

You're playing KoW in 15mm? That must be an experience!

So far it's. been fun, just basically used 3/4 the base size. The undead in the painting challenge that's what they are based for

You could also have your KoW bases the official size and put less models on it, there's a MMC that'S used in tournament, Minimum model count which is always 1 more than the previous size. So a Regiment (10 models) would only need 6 on the base to be accepted... here's the link to the FAQ with the chart at the bottom

What about undead foot sloggers (troop/regiment/etc)? I see multiple dimensions.
