Bad Trader: Jon Sommer AKA Tsunami

I made a deal with Jon in mid-February to sell him some old warzone models i had. He received the models, but i never received payment.

It was a small deal - i was only asking $20 for the models. He has references under his name at another email that gave him a rating similar to mine, so i didn't have a problem sending at the same time. He confirmed receipt of the models but i've yet to recieve payment from him. When i asked about it, he claimed it got returned for having incorrect address and that he would resend it. The was the last i heard from him. The next PM i sent him is still in my outbox, so i sent an email to the address associated with his account but have not recieved a reply. It's been about a month since i should have received payment and he hasn't been in contact with me, so i'm just going to go ahead and file mail fraud and internet fraud forms.

Hi Jon,

I think i said it in my ad, but i only accept payment via money orders (available at any post office). I don't use paypal. If you are still interested in the models, let me know.

Hmm, that's odd. The address above is my correct address, maybe it didn't get copied correctly or they couldn't read the address for some reason. There's no need to Fedex it, standard mail is fine. I'll be out of town until next week anyway.

Yeah, perhaps. But with his other references (which i have no real reason to doubt), he had a rating of something like 36. Mine was about 40 at the time. I figured his was high enough that the small difference in rating wasn't enough to worry about. Apparently i need to rethink my policies on making other people ship first.

I heard from Jon. He says life happened and interferred with the trade. Apparently he intends to complete the deal. If so, i'll post again.

Typically, a scammer will totally cease communication once the stuff has arrived.
Additionally, as you say, it was a SMALL trade. Typically, it'd be a larger trade. If he was scamming, you'd normally have 4, 5, 6 or more other people also chiming in on this thread with "Me, too's" by now.

I'm not defending him. he could be scamming the HELL out of you... but signs point to, "No."

That being said, I'd love to see a post with info on how things are looking now.

I agree with everything you said. That was pretty much what went through my head as well. But the fact remains that i still don't have the money he owes me. I have gotten a bunch of excuses though. I understand that life gets in the way of trades, but reasonable excuses get to be unreasonable when they start bringing friends, if you know what i mean.

The last email i got from him (after one where he said he would be sending payment to me) said that my emails were being marked as spam and that he'd only received one message from me. I replied to that, assuming that he either whitelisted my address or would be checking through his spam folder, but never heard back. I also sent an email from a different email address and haven't heard back from that either. Whether he got them or not, i don't see how my emails getting marked as spam would prevent him from mailing the money order (which he should already have) to my address (which he should also have). And if there are email issues, he could always PM me here...

I held off on filling out the mail fraud forms when i heard back from him because it seemed like a legitament excuse and he said he intended to pay me. I don't know what the deal is, but it looks like he's ignoring me now, so i guess i'll be filing the forms afterall. I wanted to avoid that, because i really did think it was a case of life inteferring with the trade. Anything i can do beyond filling out the forms in Insidius's sig? I don't think the police will care about $20.

Truth be told, I'd have already filed the reports before the most recent time he contacted me.

*F* the fact that it's $20. it's not about that. it's about theft. YOU worked hard for that money.
I say that, IN ADDITION TO filling out the 'Sid forms, you call your local and his local Police Dept's and get them involved.
A visit from them will, probably, get a $20 money order in the mail to you SWIFTLY.

P.S. Insist on a POSTAL money order... you can cash them at the post office. That way, if he tries to claim it was lost, you'll know because their system won't let them cash it for you.

We did a trade that actually went well.......He sent some IGuard and some paypal and I sent him some/alot..........of empire.....I left a good ref. and asked for him to leave a good ref. which he didnt yet.... But hadnt heard back................so guess I wont be getting that goo ref. hahhhahaha. Yikes for him.
