BTR/Transaction question
I have noticed that quite a number of traders are wanting contact to go through regular e-mail rather than PMs lately.
My question for the mods is, would a trade transaction that is conducted in this way qualify as a Bartertown trade?
If not, then that is good to know as I will avoid e-mail communication in favor of PMs since that would be the only way to qualify for posting a BTR or Backout.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: BTR/Transaction question
It is MUCH harder to track a deal that does go south, on email. On BT, you KNOW when PM's get read or not, and we find it easier to keep a "paper trail" that way.
Do people do it on purpose to confound the BTR process? Maybe, but it also might be quicker and easier to access email than to come to a gaming site on certain PCs..
Genereally, though, to answer your question.. Nope.. not a Btown deal, unless it is specifically mentioned a couple times that this is for a Bartertown Ad.. something within the messages to indicate BT was the origin.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.
If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

Re: BTR/Transaction question
So, an appropriate work around would be to put 'Bartertown Trade' in the topic and quote the add?
I have not had this problem per se, but I could see encountering it. I personally try to stick to PMs, but it seems like many are wanting to conduct trades Via e-mail, so I wanted to clarify the Bartertown involement.
Thanks for the response,
Dave

Re: BTR/Transaction question
I think it stems from people having their email access on their phones more and more. I can get my email easier than I can access Btown on my phone (crappy Verizon 3g).
Personally, I prefer the PM route, but out of habit, I mention to PM or email me. Then again, I don't put my email, so I guess that is just wasted space.

Re: BTR/Transaction question
Not sure I fully understand this one. I often will send a PM re an ad and ask that the person contact we via email as it is far easier for me to respond timely. From my perspective, this shows the chain/link back to Bartertown. I can appreciate that for "proof" it extremely helpful to have the reference to the Bartertown ad in the email, but I have to admit I haven't always gone to this length. Is there any "official" specification/requirement as to the info that needs to be contained in an email...?porkuslime wrote:Genereally, though, to answer your question.. If a person takes the time, they can set up their phones to access their BT PMs rather easily. However it is still easier to access your e-mail. Not only from a phone, but from public computers that may or may not block certain sites.

Re: BTR/Transaction question
If you START via PM, then switch to email, you're set. If there's ever a BTR issue, however, you'll need to post that initial PM string, as well as the emails.
When dealing via email (which I actually prefer, TBH), it's important that you show it's a deal that initiated on BTown, as Jim said.
Even if it's only in one or 2 emails, you're covered.

Want my help with a BTR or backout? All messages sent/posted should be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. Otherwise, I just won't read it.
