I found a mod for live chat through Bartertown, it's a bit long but doable. Will you use it?
Attached are screenshots of the test system with the Shoutbox ( and me talking to myself ).
** this won't affect server and load time **

Is this person to person (one on one) chat? Or can everyone on the forum chat together?
This could really revolutionize the way trades are carried out here if we can get it right.
Trading in real time could be awesome.

I wouldn't use it.
Btown soaks up a whole buttload of my free time as is.
If I chatted here, I'd never get ANYTHING done.
Also, Sid:

Don't forget, though... If you set up trade details via chat, you lose a whole lot of details and ability to prove yourself, should it ever come to a bad trader report from scamming.
I say, If the bandwidth can support t... Huzzah!
I wouldn't be likely to use it, though.

I didn't mean exclusively. I'd still use a paper trail to conduct business.
But it would be nice to go into a room full of people and ask if anyone had any "X army" for trade.

I'm not sure how long the logs are kept, I'd have to look it up. I tried installing one earlier on the test system and it was no good, I've got another I'm going to try out hopefully Sunday.
Basically, you click on the "chat" button you talk to everyone else who's online all at once ( in a little pop up window I think ). You keep the same username and such so your name in the forums is the same as in the chat.
I'll keep working on it tomorrow, it should be fun. It will be good for tech support too if you have a question about the site.

My only concern is the "less socialy minded" individuals that my feel the need to be a pain in the arse.
On the other hand, this would be a great add-on for the subscribing crowd. That is, if you are still thinking about setting up a subscriber section.

You'd have to log in to participate and your name will be visible, you can't go anonymously.

We're going to give it a test run! Need your help!
I've allowed everyone access to the
Test System
It has the same data ( database ) as the production system and so everyone has an account there, all of the posts are the same. So, if you post there, everyone is going to see it on both sides. The only problem is that the links on the title bar at the very top ( "Trading Home, Discussion Home" ) and some other links might drop you into production.
Test out the
Shoutbox at the bottom, goof around, use it seriously, whatever you want, but give it a try, we need people to use it and I'll post another poll.
Post feedback here or in the Shoutbox.
Click here to access the test system
Thanks!

~~~not a fan onf rthe shoutbox style...but if there was a chat section added to bartertown so we could plan meetings & talk with traders live, I would use it for certain...otherwise I use msn or yahoo messenger to talk over trades if I can
Yeah, all the feedback I've received has been negative. I'll try again with a different type of chat system, hopefully this weekend.
If you've got anything you want to shout out, do it now, it's going byebye.
