How about the ability to Auction stuff on Bartertown?

Should I add the ability to post auctions on Bartertown? It's a mod which is pretty extensive and is going to take a while to install, but what do you think?
NOTE: This will NOT replace the ability to flat out sell or trade items. This will give you the OPTION to post an auction.

Now THIS is a fantastic idea.
That would amke bartertown a "one-stop" shop for everything hobby related.
I'm all for it.

No way.. I prefer the flea market model that is here.. X price for this mini..
ebay is fine for auctioning, and I am sure the mods and owners here would prefer not to have to deal with further fraud issues..

PANTS!!!!!
My only problem is that I again think that this will make more work for the mods.
Maybe as an another offering for the 'paid members?'

No worries just get more mods. I can be one and anyone that breaks the rules will have a plague of ferocious squirrels released upon him/her

I checked and there is a new version of the auction program coming out THIS MONTH ( woo!!!! ). The best thing about it is that it doesn't latch on to the forums like a face-hugger squig to a fresh human ( yeah, I fell apart on that one ).
Unfortunately, its not out yet and I don't want to be first, so we're looking at the July timeframe for this. I'm still interested in the feedback. If you don't want it then its not worth our time.

If you proxy bid, "auction sniping" shouldn't ever be a problem.
I never understood the sniping complaints when a proxy bidding system was in place.
If you don't wish to be sniped, then bid the maximum you'd pay for the item in question.

Thats a good idea taggerd. After everybid the total time if less than like 2 hours, add 15 minutes. I voted Yes for this as it could be nice, but maybe to members with over so many references and such.

i dont like the adding 15 mins to an auction or the auction idea either, the sniping people dont like on thier auctions, well thems the breaks, put a reserve price on it if you dont like it, or for the other bidders, bid a higher max bid.
personally ebay does just fine with thier auctions, let them keep them, trading here is unique to bartertown.
if its a way for bartertown to make a little money, make a small charge for references or something.

The auction software upgrade was posted this week. I posted a number of concerns and questions on their site to see if this will work at all for us. If it does, I'll open up the test system for all to see and you guys can check it out, post test auctions, bid on stuff, etc.
I will keep you posted.

Unfortunately, the auction posts would have existed in an auction-only section. You can't co-mingle the auctions and the regular posts. Based on the site statistics, most of you are in the 40k section and the WHFB section and so this really wouldn't fly.
Maybe sometime in the future we'll be able to add this functionality but for right now, we're stuck with what we've got.

I voted no.
Its a heck of a lot of work for the mods.
I also have had a lot of grief with e-bay,so I think this is just fine as is.
Keep up the great works guys.

i wasnt asuming the intentions were to replace trading or sales, it might on its own, bartertown grew from just being a trade site, then people flooded it with ebay ads then there was a section created for them ads and it runs good as is. i dont really think an auction for bartertown is the right thing to add.
unless it would be implemented for specific sorts of things like painted armies, figs or whatever.
really i just dont like the auction idea.

I said Pantses cuz it wuz mor funner 'n sayin no.
Auctions are a seriously COOL idea. Like many others, though, it seems that it opens up cans of worms best left closed. More work for mods, FAR more opportunity for scamming, What is BTown's responsibility in case of scamming (?), ad infinitum.
I say keep the ebay forum and leave it at that. No need to bother with Auctiontown.
