Rule #12 Automated - 7 Day Wait Rule!!!

Posted: Mon Jan 15, 2007 10:39 pm
by TrademasterAdam
When you try to post less than 7 days ago in one of the trade forums, even before you get to even fill out the form, an error will pop up preventing you from posting.

The error message will tell you when you can post next. This will prevent anyone from accidentally posting too frequently.

Please PM me if you find that I've made an error somewhere in the code.

Thanks,

TrademasterAdam
Rule #12: Ad posting Frequency & Post Bumping
Post-bumping is annoying. No one likes it. Don't do it.

Please note that Bartertown users are limited to one ad per forum per seven calendar days. This keeps board clutter and bandwidth use down.

For those of you who don't understand this: Look at a calendar. If I post something on 3 July in the 40k forum I may not repost anything to that forum until 10 July. That is seven calendar days. It's a legal term.

Example:
Let's say I have some LOTR Riders of Rohan I want to get rid of and other miscellaneous stuff from WHFB and 40K. I can post an ad with those items together in the LOTR, WHFB and 40K forums. Seven calendar days later, I can post another ad with the same items OR I can edit the ad at any time.
What I can't do is relist the items every day in each forum.

If you've got items that fit into multiple categories, you may cross-post given the stricture above. You may update your ad as you see fit provided your purpose is not to attempt any form of bumping.
Updating an ad is not bumping if there have been changes made to the inventory or pricing presented in the ad. It is bumping if "hey i still have this stuff available" is all that's written, or something to that extent.
Interest shown in an ad is not bumping. If you see something posted a few days ago that catches your fancy (and it's not your ad!) replying is not bumping.

That's sweet. I know a lot of people either forget about the rule and post too often, or simply don't know the rules. Nice work.

I just went to test it.
It is even retroactive to posts made before it was implimented.

GREAT JOB, ADAM!

Glad to see you were doing work while SOMEONE was off researching sites that insert the word "pants" into lines from an all time favorite movie series!

In fact, I think I am out of a job!!

Thanks Adam :(

Nah, just kidding -

Now I can do what I really like, trying to help newer traders write better ads, get more trades accomplished, and help make the experience better instead of having to hunt down rule breakers.

After multiple people getting confused, let me make this clarification. (on going for months to be honest.) This is not a business week. It is seven calender days. This of course includes weekends and holidays.
