New nids Thread

So, has anyone else played with or against the NEw Nids yet?
I had the misfortune of experiencing them yesterday.

All I can say is that Raveners and Genestealers are now worth their points.
The broodlord is sweet, too. Not to mention "Without Numbers."

The new rules for Lictors are appropriate now, too. It used to be... "Oh, look. Here's my lictor. Now shoot it to death before I can do anything with it. Not now.

They Deepstrike, sorta, and can assault the turn they come into play.

Their modification for deepstrike is that, you place them anyplace you want in a piece of area terrain. Roll for scatter.
When they scatter, they will NOT scatter out of that piece of terrain.

I encountered 2 that DSed into a narrow strip of trees. The scatter did nothing to them, as it would have scattered them out of the trees.
Not nice.

Oh... and NO Tyranid model may be insta-killed if it is within Hive Node range. None.

he, he...

Looked like my son picked himself a good army.

Now I gotta burn them through painting so he can play... Seeding Swarm with TONS of Genestealers, Horm's and Warriors...

Gonna have to get the new codex though - Already had the 'node thing going - so BONUS! But if the Lictor deployment is indeed as you say, he will want some of them after all...

Yes.

Yes. He picked a good one.

You'll want to get the codex before modelling them, though. A lot of the new choices (like feeder tentacles, which give 'Stealers a Cthulhu look) are stupid, and you'll want to be sure to give your Genestealers an extended carpace which, IIRC gives them a 4+ save.

Gak.

I wasn't too impressed by the gaunts. Their shooting AND HtH were cr@ppy.

Ive always loved the bugs. Theres nothing more cool than watching 100 genestealers break through your line even though youve sat and pounded them the entire game :)

What's wrong with the bonesword?
Nids use symbiotes as weapons and the BS is a symbiote weapon.
Just about every other race has power weapons, which are HtH weapons that are carried. This is just the Bug Version. Plus, IIRC, having it gives them some sort of ability.

Whats wrong with the Bonesword? Well, to be perfectly honest I think it looks silly. Should've just made some sort of super-scything talon or something. Or not, because they could do just fine without power weapons, considering all the upgrades they've been given already. They're a little TOO frightening now!!

I like my nids

I don't even bother with a hive tyrant so the bonesword although extremely silly looking isn't anything I have to deal with. The broodlord is your friend as are lictors. I never take less then 2 (lictors). I haven't got a chance to take any gaunts yet. We are playing an escalation campaign at the local hobby shop which starts with only 1000 points. I am also playing the early seed army thing so I have...

2 full squads of stealers
Broodlord with 6 guy superstealer retinue
2 lichtors
14 gargoyles

I've lost 2 and won 1, but I tell you what. Rending claws are your friend. Although try not to assault too many vehicles if you can avoid it. They keep exploding and killing half my squad. :?
