The following thread appears in another section. As one of the great unwashed I would offer my 2 cents that ANY discussion of prices other than clarification should be taken to private communication. I would personally be offended by a public posting of "You're asking too much" and this tiptoes along that line without crossing it. In private communication this would be much harder to be offended by.

Then should an admonishment for the subsequent "I agree" also be taken private?

Just interested in what others think.

The prices you're posting... Are you just posting them so we get an idea of what retail is, or is that what you're wanting to get for the pieces?

Thanks.

Eric

Agreed. Some of your prices are above retail, or damn close to it. Just wondering.

Ian...
What are you agreeing with me on?

All I asked was what his intent was with posting the prices.

Your post seems as if you only wanted to comment on what you perceive to be the inappropriateness of his prices.
I was actually inquiring about a trade with him.

The difference is that mine was presented in a manner that was intended to start a dialogue towards a trade.

Yours was a simple comment on his prices.

Had you added something like, "I'm interested in your stuff, as well... if you're willing to barter the prices," it would have been acceptable.

Perhaps a bit too aggressive as a reply to a trade ad... but acceptable.

If you're "just wondering," then it really is considered appropriate to keep it to:
(a) Private Messages
or
(b) yourself.

To the OP and mods who might see this... I don't think this was a threadjack, as it was related to the OP's prices...
If YOU think it is... My apologies. I'll happily withdrawal my support of the OP at either of your requests and edit this post... Regardless, I will not comment on this matter any more in this thread.

I know I'm probably in the minority on this one but I don't see anything wrong with commenting on prices in the public forum. If for no other reason than it is there for everybody to see and others can get a better feel for the pulse of the Bartertown community and our feelings on pricing. Stuff that happens via PMs helps only the 2 people that are involved whereas posts listed on the boards are read by all of us and can be very informative. Nothing says you have to lower prices and somebody else might think his prices are just fine, but I don't see anything wrong with comments as long they aren't rude or disrespectful. A simple "hey, your prices seem a bit high since I can order that stuff brand new from the Warstore for less money" might actually help out a new person who has never traded or sold here before. Rather than sitting and wondering why he's not getting any responses on his ad he has some useful information presented to him via the forum post.
As an aside, would you be posting this if you had read a post under and ad that said" Wow, your prices are really great!!" ??? It's exactly the same thing just the other side of the coin...

I have to agree with MEDEVL. I too saw this post and thought "gee, those prices are REALLY high. What's the deal?" But I simply didn't post anything because I'm not interested and also it probably wouldn't do any good.

I've found that there are sometimes to extremes here. One is the "I want something for nothing" crowd, which tends to balk at prices that aren't lower than 50% of retail. And then there's the "I want more money than retail or Ebay pricing". Both these extremes usually are very set in their ways and there's no use bartering with them.
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

Right or wrong, this is thread jacking. Infact, the thread here is just an extension to the original advertisement. I'm also considering this thread jacking. It's public criticism to an existing advertisement. Please leave comments like these to the PM system. Both this thread and the advertisement have been locked.
