STOP POSTING NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON OTHER PEOPLES THREADS

This has been said many times on here before, but it's happening quite a bit again

If you want to comment on the quality of someones work, or the prices they are selling for, or even how they are listing it-- DO IT IN PRIVATE.

If you don't like their stuff don't buy it.

All you are doing is chasing people off the site.

If your post gets hijacked like this, PM one of the moderators and we will delete the person's comments along with banning or some other form of punishing of the hijacker.

PM any of the moderators and we will handle this swiftly and with a little bit of this: :orcbutt: :orc_whip:

It's not even my posts. In the past few months I've conducted lots of trades with new members. Almost all of them say someting to the effect of

"Thanks for a good trade. I wasn't sure about bartertown,.I've dealt with a lot of assholes here. "

Which always surprises me, because I've dealt with almost 0 assholes here. But lately I've been reading posts that say things like

"Your paint is crap"
"Why would anyone buy...."
"You should do this"

If someone wants advice, there is a discussion side to the board to get it in. Any unsolicited advice should be done in a PM.

What's the policy on gently telling people that they have things posted in the wrong sections?? I personally have been posting under people's ads lately if I notice they are in the wrong section or something, especially if they are new to Bartertown. I've also started cutting and pasting the rule about only poating in the trade sections once a week on threads where people constantly abuse that rule. I know I'm not an admin, but I don't feel like I'm doing anything wrong and I NEVER do it in a negative way. Usually just a simple "Hey, welcome to Bartertown, just so you know auctions have their own section" or something like that. I think it's better done in the public thread for 2 reasons. One it re-enforces it to others who see it and two, it's obvious that's it's been done. That way some new guy doesn't get 12 PMs about how he put his ad in the wrong section, it's just a simple reply in the thread. If I'm doing something wrong please let me know and I'll knock it off.

MEDEVL, he's not talking about you. He and I have both seen quite a few people over the past few weeks make absolutely obnoxious posts. Like when somebody with a trade rating less than 20 feels the need to suggest a better price scheme for somebody with a trade rating over 100....I mean, that's just STUPID. Plus there have been a lot of jerks commenting on quality of items in the public forum. The guy is putting the links up so that you can judge the quality for yourself...you don't need some jackass giving people preconceived notions before they even get to see the pictures.

Anyway, from what I can tell, what you're doing is polite and perfectly acceptable.

PM Linrandir and harass him until he lets you be a moderator.

Really you shouldn't be doing that. The moderators will get to their post and will move it/delete it/etc. or just suspend that person's account (or some of the stuff MB described).

I annoy the mods.

I post a link in a PM & shoot it to Sid or Al or Lin or Morlock.

I don't bother Adam because he's got too much other cr@p going on.

Yes, PLEASE just inform one of the mods and we'll take care of it.

Don't tell the person yourself, and if you REALLY feel you must, please do it politely via PM.

In any case, do not do it in their thread publicly.

...and, if you DO decide to post it directly to their thread, be sure you call them a jerk, idiot, moron or big fat stupid-head, so they know how much we hate them.

I would like to point out rule #4:
Rule #4: Do not hijack other people's threads.
If you want to talk trade with someone who has posted a response to a third party's thread, take it to email, Private Message (PM) or start your own thread.
Furthermore, since it needs clarification, do not attack people's ads if you feel they don't conform to Bartertown rules (Please also note rule #1). Notify a moderator, follow rule #0, and then let it go. We will make the appropriate decision(s).
If you feel your thread has been hijacked or comments are going WAY off topic, please contact me via PM and I will investigate.
It annoys me to see how many people continually need to be reminded to NOT BE A D!CK and don't break the rules. They're not that hard to follow...

Unless you're Eric. He has to do the Truffle Shuffle every time he wants to do a trade. :poke: :-)

Yeah, ya stupid fat-head! :Pirate_30:

I haven't been here as often as I used to be, but back when I was a regular I had a 'form PM' that I sent people if I saw a problem (multiple posts, posts in the wrong area, and so on.). I sent it to Lir first to ask him if it was appropriate and acceptable. He agreed it was OK, and every time I saw something I'd send that note to them and also send Lir a quick PM to let him know Hey, I saw this and sent them this PM about it.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA I love this community!!!!

big fat stupid heads and all!

But yea, send a link to a mod depending on how peeved the rule breaker makes you.

Send them to Sid or myself if you want text book destruction of the user along with a LOT of bitching and ranting.

Send them to NuWisha if you want them to cry alot before the text book destruction because you should SEE this cat's pm's to users... unreal.

Send them to Al if you want them to be destroyed text book-like (same as sid and l) BUT there WILL be a post in the mod forum about just how upset Al is at that user and how banned the user should be. There may even be a claim that Al was too hard on the user from said user. Gets stuff done Al does... 'git r' dun' but for some reason he gets the most flak.... I still can't figure that out.

Send them to Lin, if and ONLY if you LOATHE the user that broke the rule. I've seen what Lin does to some of those users, I've been on the receiving end of his tirades about those users... frankly it makes me want to curl up with my binky and hide.

and last but certainly not least,

Send them to Adam if you want them to be destroyed "when the site gets updated again".

And I am out.

Fine... I'll just start a different screen name and not tell you it's me!
then, I won't HAVE to do it!

Or, I could just do this...
