Reduced trade due to damage in shipping

On another site that has trading, I have a much lower rating there and recently had to ship out first.
The package was received and now the trader is complaining about excessive damage.. I was kind of surprised because the items inside where packed tight, then I used packing foam on top of it for any loose stuff.. He sent me a update on the damage, but nothing about my package being shiped out and said he would get back to me on another update.
i have never dealt with something like this in all my years of trading and the guys has a high rating so I don't think he is trying to pull a fast one. But some of the damage he mention seemed impossible, severed heads off figures that was in a zip lock bag and surrounded by packing foam.
My concern is the guy will try to reduce his side of the trade to make up for the damage he found, how should I handle something like this??

I've been on both sides of this. If you trust 'em, fine, if not, request pics.

Usually, whoever's in error will either add a little cash or take out something small to cover the damages (assuming it's different condition than described and not so different as to be worth more serious action- for instance, goopy with glue beyond what they said (or they should clearly have mentioned it), missing a head, serious but fixable damage from shipping, etc.)

Worst case scenario, if you can't agree on anything reasonable, just pay for return shipping.

ask for pics of the minis and the box. It should be damaged also.

If he refuses, the tell him to cancel the deal, since he's obviously lieing, and send the minis back.

If you feel you packed them well, and had insurance, then he can file a claim for the insurance to get compensated.
If you didn't have insurance, well, then you're probably screwed. Insurance only costs a couple bucks.

Haven't heard back from him, just afraid that he will hold my stuff hostage until the problem is worked out.
As for the level of trust.. It is the same as on bartertown.. I really don't know anyone personally so don't know what they are really thinking.

On a side note...I love some of the high traders foot notes... (your stuff is gold - my stuff is trash) - paraphrasing
Even spiralingcadaver has a good one..

Severed heads?
That implies that the head was a part of the model, rather than separately attached, like a WHFB or 40K model.
How the Hell would a head get SEVERED?
It ALMOST sounds like he could be trying a wee bit of shenaniganery (not accusing, of course). Definitely request pics.
