Woke up, checked my e-mail, saw that I had a reply to the topic I posted yesterday. So I click the link, and lo and behold my topic no longer exists. What's up with that?

From what I have found after talking with Lin, something happened with the ISP and Adam is working with them on it.

More info later.

Here's the story:

The ISP is SUPPOSED to perform daily backups. They did not.

Something happened, we don't know what, and one of our databases was deleted. This is why Btown was down earlier today.

When the backup was restored (only AFTER Adam emailed the ISP and blasted them) it was from a week ago. They claim to not have any other backups. So in short, the ISP just ate a week's worth of business on Bartertown.

Thanks for letting us know what's going on.

So from the sound of it, we should assume that everything from the 21st or so is not coming back?

Sounds like time for the "who was i trading with again???" thread.
(note to self: keep better records of pending trades)

If stuff's not coming back, can we get an official announcement somewhere letting people know to resend any recent messages, repost feedback, etc?
I suspect that not everyone is aware there was a problem. My email tells me i had 3 PMs, but i don't happen to know who they were from, so i've got to wait to hear from them. I'm sure i'm not the only one. A general announcement might be helpful.

Yet another good reason to conduct all trades through email... or send an email "back up" message, in the very least.

Email is the best route, except...

I would normally agree that email is the best route to go, but my work recently put a spam email filter on our system that not only kills the spam, but also some of the legit email. I can't really complain since I only notice on trading emails, and complaining that I'm not getting Bartertown trade emails isn't a good thing to do at work.
