Okay, folks. I should start with a few facts.

I am NOT considering playing this game (no time, extra $$ or other players).
I have NOT tried this game.
I have seen NOTHING but a couple (sealed) boxes for this game.

That being said, I have already formed a few opinions and have some curiosities. I would appreciate ANY input from ANYONE, regardless of whether of not you've played before.

I saw the game at a local store in the mall that sells games.

Holy Moses! Seventy five US Dollars for the main boxed set. That is NOT a good start, IMO, for a game that people are getting into as less expensive alternative to 40K. There were 2 "squad" type boxes, as well. One for marines, one for aliens.

Are there OTHER armies? Will there be? Seems to be a prro marketing idea to me, if not. At Twenty US dollars a boxfor (IIRC) 8 marines or 6 aliens, it doesn't seem to be so great a deal.

Now. the back of the box was NOT helpful, IMO, on what the game will LOOK like. the pictures of the minis were lacking enough detail for a feel of how well the sculpts were, not to mention the HACK paint job on them.

Sorry but, if you want to sell a mini's game to ME, you have to present your minis in the best possible light. Fork over the cash and have a Golden Demon winner paint 'em.

Now, in addition to that, I can't tell, from looking at the boxes, how much work I will have/get to put into the minis. The boxes don't say multi-part mini's, but they say "mulit pose" minis (IIRC).
This makes ME thing that the minis are all ONE piece, giving ME no creativity options.

Add in that the aliens look REALLY stupid!

Okay.
It is based on the movie, right?
So, it stays true to form. The aliens looked stupid there, too.
I would love to see what opinions others have formed of the game.

How well does it play?

Eric

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

The game is the best, most easy to learn and play game i have seen. I work at a gaming store in california and i'm actualy running an instore demo game this sunday.
the starter is expensive, but you get enough in that if you stick to small games you will never need to expand. It's best if you can find someone to split the starter with. thats what me and a friend of mine did, he took the MI and i took the arachnids. we eventualy bought and split another starter since its such a good deal.
the system is so easy to learn that if you can just jot down or memorize some simple stats that you will never need to look at the book again. I actaly forgot the rulebook for the last demo but got by fine without it.

this is getting kind of long winded, the minis are terific and durable, the game is fast, smooth and fun and there is a third race called the skinnies with plans for more in the future. anymore questions? send me an email at theo_hyland@yahoo.com

It is actually based of the animated series called "Roughnecks". It was on saturday mornings for awhile, but now only on video/dvd as far as I know. It is a pretty good show if you like that sort of thing. I watch it while working on my IG army. Great atmosphere. :)
