Just finsihed Ard Boyz... Came in a respectable 5th...

Had 3 Amazing Games but WTF was up with the scenarios.

Some of the guys were REALLY upset because they totally screwed their armies.

What was up with totally nerfing everyone EXCEPT Tyranids!!!

For those of us who didn't go, could you clarify? What exactly were the scenarios? Care to give us some battle reports? Curious minds would like to know!

As a player of the most boned army (guard) I gotta say they did indeed screw some armies over (some of us way more then others). Although, I gotta admit, they DID post the scenarios more then ample time in advance so we could set up as best we could to try to compensate. I too came in a respectable 5th in my area.
@Asif Chaudhry GW had the official scenarios posted on the "ard boyz" section of the GW site at least as early as Monday. I reckon they are still there for you to check out.

While the missions are up and have been for a while in adavanced, they tend to boil down this time to:

Mission 1: Screw you if you don't have troops or can't table the enemy.

Mission 2: Screw you if aren't Space Marinez.

Mission 3: Screw you if you have vehicles.

Link to missions:

edit: wrong ones, hang on....

Also there was some contention that the person who wrote or co-wrote teh senarios was also playing in hard boyz....so that conflict of interest raises their ugly head....

I looked over the scenarios, and I don't see them like that at all.
I see "Screw you if your army isn't balanced AND 'Ard" on all 3.

Mind if I ask what your opinions are based on, car? Especially #'s 2 & 3. I don't see the SM bonus there, and I DEFINITELY see vehicles as a bonus in #3.

ooops, sorry let me edit that. Thats 2009. not 2010. In 2010, anything in mission 3 that moves more then 6" in one turn counts as 3 KP instead of 1.....

Let me find the 2010 missions.

edit mission 3:

Round 3 Kill Da Fast ones.

Annihilation with the following modifications to kill points.

1 points for a unit
2 points if the unit is a HQ
3 points in the unit can move >6" in any phase of the game
No points are cumulative for the same unit, use the highest value only.

I believe this is it, although the work network wont let me open it:

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... narios.pdf

Copied from someone else(I agree with his estimation on them)

First mission is your standard seize ground mission but with 3 things to note:

1) The deployment is a 24 inch no man's land in a diagonal line on the board.
2) It is automatically 5 objectives
3) 6 turn limit

Its nothing too exciting but be sure to note that your deployment may leave you vulerable to someone who is willing to be risky enough to outflank a few things. Just set up some road blocks along the side or snicker when he outflanks +60 inches away from you. But remember while the deployment zone may be unique, you still have reserves coming from your table edge meaning that you can drop some stuff in his own deployment zone with far better control than outflanking.

Second mission is a victory point mission with spearhead deployment. The bonus points are for capturing table quarters with the most scoring units in each table quarter. Its 4th edition nostalgia and your best bet with this mission is to first start off with killing targets of opportunity. This doesnt mean kill the easiest first but dont ignore them either. Silence or kill whatever can kill you and if you can take some shots at easy victory points. This is not KP so throw a baited unit or two if you need to lure something.

Now the third mission might as well be called "*edit* mech" mission or "I love my 4th edition army" mission. Its back to KP with triple the amount of KP for any unit that moves over 6" in a single phase.

Wow.
What a horrifyingly crappy group of scenarios.

The guy who wrote them should NEVER be allowed to write scenarios again!

On the third mission I played a Ork player that was actually beating me marginally, kill wise, and tied of battle. However he scored 0 points and I scored 24.

I had seen the scenarios before the event and changed my army up so that I would be competitive in all three missions. Basically nerfing my army so I had nothing that moved over 6" This I must admit was a mistake. I thought that the event would be decided in the third round and I wanted a massacre if I could get one. Unfortunately for me. Losing that mobility REALLY hurt me in the first two scenarios. I got a minor loss and a tie. I did play Tyranids first (a killer list played by an extremely good player) and a Large Thunder Hammer SS Termie list second. Not great match ups for my blood angles. I played a 8 drop pod list and didn't get a charge all tournament... LOL

Every game was extremely close The first would have been a victory if I would have made one more save, and the second a minor vic if my opponent would have made one less save from a ten man TH/SS Termie squad that I only got half victory points for because he had one guy left. (Did I mention I HATE victory points)

Even though I didn't place top 3 was a GREAT experience and the missions REALLY made you stretch your skills and list building, however people REALLY got screwed if they didn't see the missions and prepare accordingly. I would have expected more balanced missions and not slanting the missions to screw certain army types.
