You knew it was coming, like the inevitable spring thaw, or the rolling of the ocean tides GW is always good for a seasonal price hike. So here it is in all it's glory!! (Link stolen from Dakka)

From a guy who used to buy pretty much everything they made I hope I live to see them go bankrupt. Rarely have I seen a company so out of touch with reality.

perty much the slow company on the block, others make the hikes less apparent, a buck here and there goes unnoticed a lot easier then 10% jumps
If i have said it once Ill say it again, People only play/ buy GW because other people do. i mean the cost to fun ratio isnt there in my mind.

You know, I think boardgames are where I want to be nowadays. With all the foo-foo and special rules and such, I'm not enjoying miniatures games that much anymore. *sigh*

I dream about new orc boys, by the time they come out they'll be 37.00 for 10 models.
Fire the eavy metal crew, they waste more models between conversions and bad paints than most of us see at stores. (you pay for all of it)

I, for one, think it's about time.
It's been far too long since GW increased their prices.
Gamers have been getting away with riding the GW bandwagon for way too long, now, and it's about time they started paying a fair price. I mean, I'm certain GW hasn't posted anything but losses in the last couple years.
Stop complaining, people. It's your DUTY to pay higher prices. Geez.
Someone needs a Waaahmbulance.
Want some cheese with that whine?
Seriously, guys.
I mean, this move is definitely, DEFINITELY...
On another note, that about seals it for me.
I don't think I'll be buying another GW mini after the increase. Not from anyone offering any less than 30% off. DEFINITELY not straight from GW ever again.
I'll buy from you guys, though. You're my friends. : )

I have been collecting and playing 40k for oh 13+ years and I am not surprised by this at all. It's annoying, will cost them money, have no plans on making large purchases from them anyways and would think alot of older gamers are the same. Having said that some of the newer kits are kinda cool,,,,but Im running outta space to store stuff,so,,,,also gotta realize that GW is in it for the money and ho's not us gamers
Still its kinda like crack, the dealer has it,you want it you will pay for it.
I just wish they would focus on gaming more and less on sales,,,I picked up a white dwarf the other week as its been along time since I got one,(sorry but 9 dollars for a magizine? ummm no) and it really was like a catalog,,,where was the hobby/modeling/gaming focus? It was just ooooooohhh look at our shiney new thingy, here it is all painted, here it is on the table top.
I will say this though,,,,its kinda sad when the regular plasitc kits make the forgeworld resin ones look kinda cheap.

True, I've been playing and buying their stuff since the mid 80s. Prices are SURE different then they were back then.
But then again, that goes beyond just prices. It is the whole mindset towards competition over fun. I think us players have a small hand in it.
Hear me out. Not only do we willingly pay for the stuff but we compete. Every game has a winner and a loser. We have nationwide competitions. That mindset and competitiveness sets the prices on some of the models while way back when, you played purely for fun and both opponants could "win".
Ok, off the soapbox, look at the price of oil, heck, look at the global economy. The rich companies gouge out the smaller ones and common person to stay afloat. GW just taking it extreme measures to maintain the high profits.
I gotta admit though that they could find FAR easier and better ways to keep their profits up AND keep us happy. I only buy stuff from discount places to.

Evil Inc. I would take the other side of the coin. Every game I play is a tournament or in preperation/practice/training/whateveryouwannacallit for a tournament.
Of all the vets, tourney goers spend the most money on GW products by far. Casual vets buy secondhand.
However one group outspends us all - the impulse buyer and that is why GW has started marketing the way it has.

They do all of that with miscast sprues you know...they just dont use whatever couple bits were actually miscast. If one bit on a baneblade sprue is off the whole thing has to be scrapped.

I'm with you MM. This just reinforces me not buying from GW anymore. What a joke.

I just wish that instead if a price hike they make sething EVERYone will want to buy (likespacehulk)
I mean if they were to make 1fw-ish model a year in their slow quarter ( like a Titan, squigoth, GD of khorn that doesn't look like a monkey) I'm pritty sure they'd make some dough.
@gmm: I don't know dude, I made a rhazorback spam list from 100% recycled parts and it's perty competitive.
I think GW trully is after both the new player and impulse buyers. I mean look at the new boxes, they are uber shinney and eye catching for people with no clue.
At my store the #1 thing I have tried to push for is a learn to play event were the newbs get a small discount in the rulebook/army BOx only. Because any new player= an easy $500in sales once their army is done (paint, flock, transport, models). I mean who remembers getting paint for less then $3 a pop? It's $4 (well $4.01 with calis tax) a pop now...
If gw tried to compete in the economy with volume it would be perty sweet in mymind.

All the really cool models everyone wants (storm raven, manticore, medusa, griffon, plastic grey knights, etc.) will come out after the price hike. And everyone will be buying from GW, ....again.

Yeah thats pretty much where I'm only expanding to now, here and on the cheap.
Seriously, seeing the new tank releases- manticore, LEMAN RUSS varaints, deathstrike, fire prism,- but seeing the price of a regular tank, not something bigger like a Land raider or battlewagon, with a $50 price tag is far far too much for the tank vehicals.

No you dont. If your patient and willing to wait and want to trade. Just this week trading away stuff I know I never will play anymore, I've gotten 2 skyrays, 1 hammer head, 2 Landraiders and a bunch of boyz- all for my ork army to convert.....
Patience is the key.

Gw will be the cause of their own closing.
They raise prices so people buy from discounters online & not real concrete stores.
Stores go out of business or stop carying Gw- no sales.
Players have no where to play, so stop getting Gw all-together.
Gw goes bye-bye.
