(not) responding to PMs

Post by Scytale »

[rant]
It's not an offence per se but it's really annoying. Really. It only takes a few seconds and you know where you stand. I've had examples when people responded to my PMs after a week or so, telling me they couldn't take time atm then forgot about my post in the meantime. I totally understand that. Everyone forgets stuff and it's no big deal. What I don't understand is people who NEVER do that. Not even a simple no. I'd go as far as to say it's bad manners and an inappropriate attitude.

I suppose the whole reason I'm writing this is because my last 4 PMs did not yield a single response. And they weren't about me asking to buy stuff 90% off retail. I sometimes just wish there would be a button to report people not answering polite reasonable PMs, so along with the trade refs, we'd also all have a...''douchebag counter''? At the end of every trade, or before it even begins, you'd mark someone with a +, O or -. To sum up their attitude. Wishful thinking and probably too open to abuse, but still a nice sign to say ''don't bother with this guy''.

I had to get that out, hope you don't mind. :)

A little something I noticed lately...people seem to put black paint over a painted model and sell it as 'primed'. The next time my brake fluid reveals my 'primed' model had several layers of paint on it, some genius will get a negative ref. Play fair blokes...

Lower rating ships/pays first and all the usual stuff.

And please, take those 3 seconds to reply to my PMs. A simple 'no' would do, anything more is always greatly appreciated.

I am sure we have all felt it more than once.

I usually keep PM'ing until they send a reply. That way I win!!! LOL

All we can do is to encourage everyone to treat others as they wish to be treated. If you are courteous, it will proabably affect the DBs that aren't.

I've deaslth with a few DBs here. Finally, I just put into0 my signature a request for people to treat others as they would like to be treated. I treat everyone with dignity and respect as likely you do too. There ARE some DB who will never do so though and you just learn to live with that knowledge.
I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. Good luck mate. :-D
Treat other members with the same dignity, respect and honesty you would like to be treated with.

If it's that much effort to get a response, don't do the deal.

It's not so much that I want to trade so badly and am pissed off because someone's ignoring me. It's more about manners, kindda like asking someone on the street what time it is and he'd just ignore you. *sigh*

Kids these days..

If someone doesn't reply to a message, I'll go to the message I set.
Click reply (it used to send to them even though I was replying to my own message) delete my name, add theirs.
Click the little quote button so my original message is repeated in full.
Type "Awaiting Reply" beneath the original message.
and hit SEND

It's about 50/50 on whether I get a response.
I have had alot that had deleted the original by accident and were happy that I sent again.

Scy while I feel your pain, I'd like to point out that sometimes when someone doesn't answer it's because the person sending the PM should have paid more attention to the original trade post (assuming that's what they're PM'ing about).

As an example, back when I was very active on Bartertown, I listed my trade rules first. Those rules included No International Trades, and that if you wished to conduct a trade with me Please Respond by Email and NOT by PM. If someone completely ignores my trade rules and/or restrictions, am I really the one being a jerk by refusing to respond to them? Any response I could send them would be something akin to "Wake up and actually READ the post before wasting my time" - which isn't really any better.

Now I'll admit that it isn't always the case, but it did happen fairly frequently and it always made me wonder: If the person PM'ing me couldn't be bothered to actually read and pay attention to my requirements for trading, are they really going to pay any more attention to those kinds of details if I actually tried to trade with them?
