Here's an email I got from GW.

The Games Workshop Newsletter 15.03.2010

In this issue: Incoming! Spearhead

Incoming! Spearhead

Gather your tanks and ready your lascannons – in June the pages of White Dwarf magazine and games-workshop.com join forces to bring you a whole new expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Spearhead.

Spearhead is a new way to play Warhammer 40,000 that enables you to unleash exciting tank battles and daring breakthrough missions on the table top, bringing the full mechanised fury of the 41st Millennium to bear in your games. June's White Dwarf will contain the main part of the supplement, including new rules, missions and plenty of inspirational hobby advice. Alongside this, games-workshop.com will feature additional material for registered members such as details for how to assemble your Spearhead formations along with even more painting, modelling and collecting tips.

As if a whole new Expansion wasn't exciting enough, it's going to be accompanied by a range of new miniatures including some stunning new plastic kits – more details of these kits, and the Spearhead Expansion, will follow in May's issue of White Dwarf and on games-workshop.com in due time.

As June's White Dwarf contains a new expansion, it promises to be very popular. Guarantee your copy by subscribing here today.

Well, of course.
Games Workshop, contrary to common belief, is NOT a game company. They are first and foremost a MINIATURES company. They make the games in order ot sell those miniatures.

I would expect no less of them.

Oh, I know. I'd just rather see them put forth teh effort to clean up the current rules before introducing new ones.

Ah, delusion, its not just a river in... wait, thats not right.

Good luck to you roundbasers and your new rule set. Breakout is a fun scenario in almost any game. Just be willing to sacrifice a fair number of units to get the important ones through.

Don: I'd feel some sympathy for you, but I'm just now getting the Fantasy rule set down. We are expecting 8th edition this summer to throw a pile of monkeys and wrenches at us. Yeah.

Yeah, I gave up on Fantasy years back, when they took all the good magic away from my all-Goblins army.

Eric
They are a company that specializes in the manufacture and SALE of plastic model (and some metal) kits geared to a particular setting they pieced together from 60 years of popular science fiction, and then were (somehow) able to copyright as their own.

They have game rules and magazines to keep the sales numbers of the kits high.

As far as being a company focused on the development and sale of "games" that company ceased to exist years ago. They should have changed the name to Warhammer Workshop or Models Workshop or something long ago.

Dont get me wrong......I still love the models.

They had constant and recurring pricing errors in the white dwarf as their departments apparently failed to communicate with each other.

and

I think I recall reading somewhere that due to all the prices and merchandise hey advertised they were being charge by the postal service as a product catalogue and not a magazine... seems reasonable but I might be making this up :-D

Nope, you are correct about the postal part. That and the fact that there is more 'ad' space than 'content', ie stories, reports written text.

If you read the cover is says, "White Dwarf catalogue and magazine".
Just like the difference between a bar and arestaurant; you have to list the main sales item first. [food and spirits vs Spirits and food}
