You hear and read the horror stories but you don't think it can happen to you.

Well.... it happened to me, im a big fan of large lot trades which have never been an issue in the past, this time however i did not receive my end of the deal even though the USPS tracking number states the package has been delivered.

So it looks like i am depending on the person the package was delivered to hoping they will do whats right and send the package back to the sender.

I do live in the states.... so yeah i am most likely out $1300 and it STINGS,considering i remember a time when i did not even make that much money in month it makes me a bit sick.

Obviously this is all my fault for

A. Trading so large
B. Not getting insurance
C. The other reasons someone will no doubt come up with.

Im sucking it up and trying to not blame anyone, so no need to call me a dumbass etc...

So lets hear your horror stories, what is the most you have lost on a trade?
And on the subject of horror "my army was stolen from my car" stories count.

I challenge you to beat $1300

When I rolled my truck at 60mph on the freeway, my then $300 cygnar army was in a reaper hard plastic case which is shaped like a star treck torpedo. Anyway when a truck rolls a army case can fly really far and is somewere on the 101 freeway there is a nice sized cygnar army waiting to be played.

So not as bad for the army but as I totaled my truck, lost my calculator (a $150 one), 3school books (about $150ea) and my cheap-o beater of a truck ($2k) I think it should count.

Nope, scratched my pinky finger was all. Good ole American steel trucks!

There was just a $250 increase on my car insurace, because even I was driving 5mph below the limit, in the rain with a flash hail storm and there were 7other accidents including 2 cops within a 1/2 mile area it was STILL my fault.

Just to add something that you wish to consider.

I myself was waiting for several trades once. According to the tracking the packages had been delivered. When I went to my local post office I learned that the mail carrier did not feel safe delivering packages to my door due to the condition of my walkway and steps. No notice was left prior to this stopping of my mail, no little yellow card stating that things needed to be fixed. Just a simply stopping of my mail.

Long story short, the packages were scanned delivered, but I had to go to the post office in the first place to find out that they were being held for pickup rather than delivered.
Not sure if you have already physically checked at your post office or not, Take a copy of the tracking results (DC#) to the post office just in case it is a similar situation

I have a horror story that did not happen to me personally, but happened to a co-worker. I worked at a GW a few years back, and one of my fellows had a very nicely converted Daemonic Legion of Slaanesh (the old Storm of Chaos list) army in a GW hard case. And a Dark Elf army in a GW hard case. Both disappeared from the back room. And this guy was a good painter, so not only was he out the minis, but he was out the hours and hours and hours spent painting them. Probably the worst army loss story I've encountered.

Usually the 'unsafe/hazard' is a bad or aggresive dog. Although in some areas, just the neighborhood is bad and nothing is delivered. In Los Angeles it's called 'check daze'. 1st of the month checks come out, and so do the loons and thieves. The letter carrier only enters the area with an armed, non-police escort. The cops won't even go in there. If they don't have the escort, they don't get mail. They all want their checks.

If they can't get to your house to deliver the mail, because it's unsafe, who are they supposed to get there to give you a notice? If a letter carrier gets hurt walking through your yard, especially after he's written it up as unsafe; he's at fault and can get suspended without pay or fired. Even though, or especially since, it's a workman's comp claim.

Bottom line about lost mail, if it's not worth the $2-5 to insure it, it's not worth the time it takes you to bitch about it here. $1300 insurance costs $14.70.

Also remember, the "miracle on the Hudson" wasn't a miracle to all the lost, damaged luggage and mail in the cargo section of the plane.

I had spent about 10 years building up a fantasy undead army made up of models from various companies (mostly GW). Many of them were oop and rare. As I was proud of the army, I had it displayed on a shelf in the apartment I shared with a buddy. He decided that he wanted that shelf (in addition to the shelf above it that he already had) to put more of his stuff on display. So he took a cardboard box, held it below the shelf and swept the entire army in with his arm.
Of course you guys know models can be easily broken and undead even more easily broken. I believe the last piece to go into the box on top of the rest was my metal undead war mammoth (if you have one, you will know how heavy that bugger is) and break the rest even more.
I was so upset, I did not even try to fix the mess and had to give it away to a different friend.
Not sure of the cost but am SURE it was well over $500 and valued more at the time of loss.

When epic came into its (I believe) 2nd edition. I was making decent money, living at home with my folks and had no bills. Over the course of a couple years, I had accumulated a few thousand dollers worth of stuff for it. 20k plus points worth of each of the available armies. Gaurd, marines, eldar (40k plus points) orks, squats,chaos (30k plus), the works. As I was the only one without bills, I bought all and my freinds used what I was not using. When the newer edition came out, we stopped playing it and I took the whole lot to a guy to sell for me. He was a golden daemon award winner and owned a 3 stores so I felt I could trust him. Before selling it, he closed the doors to all of his stores and kept all of my stuff. I was not the only one who lost a lot to that guy when he did that.

With that said, lets say i did get insurance, isnt the whole gimmick of insurance to figure out ways not to pay up when its time?

Since every bit of evidence they have says its been delivered and not lost or stolen they have a easy out.

I think kturock was talking more about the non delivery because of bad steps or whatever moreso then ur story.

He works for usps and in any "I lost my box" story he will say effectivly the same thing, so please don't take it personal

You aren't the 1st person to have lost something, or had it damaged or destroyed, because you didn't insure it.

I was just trying to point out, to you but mosstly other readers, how cheap the insurance cost is.

Yes it's your fault, but you already stated that. I was just trying to keep others from doing the same thing.

When I was a window clerk, I told that same thing to hundreds of customers a day. Even to custmoers whe who have heard me say it to the customer right ahead of them. Even to customers I saw almost every day.

You don't realisre something until it happens to you, or if you're lucky, someone you know. It's like drinking and driving, or not wearing seat belts. WE all know the risks and results. But when it happens to you or someone close, we resolve not to do it again. No matter how often we see the PSA about it.

In your case with insurance, if it was probably mis-delivered, which is a postal claim. Proving it is very tough, but, it will warrant getting paid if proven.

Your case is already done. You can't get your $ back. But if it can prevent someone else from have it ahppening to them, wouldn't you want to help them prvent it?
Wouldn't you show up to a local school in a wheechair, and decry drinking and driving, or not wearing a seat belt, if it happened to you?

On the store owner...
I dont remember the guy's name. He was also in the middle of a deal with me for something else. I was supposed to get 4 rhinos and a special character model in exchange for a tia chi sword I had. I got 1 rhino and the character. The rest was ordered so I lost out on the other rhinos in addition to the rest of the stuff.
Is it ok for me to post the locations of his stores? Providing of course, I dont give the names of the stores or him. I can list the cities where they were located.
No, I never saw him again and to be honest, wouldnt remember him if were to walk up and talk to me in the street.

On the destroyer of the undead...
He was not TRYING to break the stuff. He was at that time, a little self centered and to be honest, "high" a lot of the time. He did not realize what he was doing. But yes, he was told to leave the apartment and give me a few hours to cool off so that I would not hurt him. Thats saying a lot as there are few as calm and laid back as I am. He was smart enough to leave and not come back till late that night.

You should have called the cops and filled against the store owner who closed.
It happpens all the time here in Flofida, not with gaming/comic stores, but businesses close and keep peoples stuff. If they get the doors closed on them, the landlords keep the stuff and try to sell it.
I've seen it with computers, clothes [at dry cleaners], cars, 'Ebay sales' stores, consignment shops.. you name it.

It makes the news every couple monthes. The investigative reporter shows the poeple going up to a closed/locked storefront and questioning what happened. Then you see them giving statements to the cops..

If the guy still has the stuff, or if the landlord locked him out, you got a good chance of getting it back. It might not be cleaned, or repaired, but at least you got it.
