Being a very new person, joined this morning I had a thought on this.
I would not have a problem giving this sites admin my address and work phone number until I get some feedback or what have you.
How bout asking for new people to do something along those lines?
Just a thought
A Lot of new traders

Well, it's not the admins' job to keep tabs on who's who. And it wouldn't do anything anyway. When i trade with someone, i always have their address(and could get their number if i wanted it). How is that suposed to stop them from ripping me off?Gaijin18 wrote:Being a very new person, joined this morning I had a thought on this.

to address the main point of the thread:
I agree with casiowiz, low(no) refs = send first. At this point, i'm still 'paying my dues' and sending first in most deals. I don't have a problem with sending first on deal with an established trader that i think is legit.
I have noticed that there are a lot of people with no references lately, but if they'll send first i have no problem. If not, then no deal. Unfortunately there are enough jerks out there to justify paranoia in trades. I hadn't realized that there was a new trader problem. Are there a lot of people who don't accept the 'lower reference sends first' rule for some reason?

Actually it's not just a new trade problem. Even some old time traders fall into this. I have had people tell me to send first. These are from people that have respectable refs (30-50 ref range). I have on a few occasions refused due to my higher rating. Call me a jerk, I don't know.I have noticed that there are a lot of people with no references lately, but if they'll send first i have no problem. If not, then no deal. On the other hand I am very comfortable with simo sends when to traders have respectable ratings.
One thing many new members do not understand is that this is not Ebay in any way, shape or form. On this board one truly has to earn his rating through fairness and honesty.
Having a high Ebay rating is rather nice, but could be had by simply purchasing items and paying for them. Very much like a grocery store. This in no way shows integrity. I have an Ebay rating of 50. I've never sold anything on Ebay, just bought. I'm not saying all are like me, but many are.
I've sold/traded/bought on B-town. I"ve traded armies in the $500 range. I've purchased and sold things over $100. My rating reflects this.
My rating and others signifies many pleasurable transactions over the years. We have garnered reputations from mutually benefical trades. I try to go out of my way to keep my good rep. I know others do the same. And in some ways we have earned a right to dictate how we wish to send items.
Well, that turned into a bit of a rant. Hope I did not offend any,
David
