I need an admins opinion

Post by Bobtheogre333 »

I know I violated a rule, minor rule break, but I need an admin to email me about a person who keeps posting on my thread. He is not an admin and his message history is all of the smae w/ a few trades. I figure that if I am to be scolded it is an Admins job, not another member. Please email me after looking at my post and please tell me what can be done about this, and if I am suspended or whatnot. Just this kind of messageboard posting has no place on bartertown. It inhibits trading. I emailed the member and to try and resolve this issue without flaming him.

Thanks,
Bobtheogre

A link would have been nice, but Omni is right. Your posting habits are not appropriate. Bartertown's user community is largely self-policing especially in the case of new people.

Doubly so in the case of people who don't read the posting rules before they start chucking ads up here.

To sum up: 1 ad per week per forum. You put everything you've got in that ad and leave it. No bumping, no adding of stuff unless you're posting new materials in a new forum.

Thanks!

You seem to have missed the point, I know hes right, but his posting habits are wrong as well because hes not an admin, and you shouldnt post to a topic if it has nothing to do with the subject. This kind of thing is why I stopped posting on Eldar online. What he is doing is an admins job, not his

I agree with both Lin and Bob here.

It's not the users place to mod the boards; a friendly "warning" should be given in private, not in public. It makes new users think that he is a mod and he's not.

However, he was right about the post bumping and multiple threads, but was wrong by hijacking your thread in so doing.

Theres nothing wrong with my posts. The admin seemed to have missed it and since I love this community I figured i'd help out. Would you be happier about the situation if I became an admin? You are still in violation of the rules either way. And for the record I did not hijack your thread, you did, which is against the rules. Also you did not email me or send me a PM at all so do not lie to these fine gentlemen. If it makes you happy i'll either try to become an admin or forward your infractions to one and they'll tell you the same thing I already have. Your thinking is quite childish actually. Being in a community is about being neighborly. If you dont want help from your neighbors then you can deal with the cops. Either way im still gravy.

PS- Again I did not hijack your thread. You are actually lucky your thread is still there.

Well, I'm not going to argue with you on whether you believe you hijacked his thread or not. Thread hijacking is when a thread is taken off-topic by a person or group of people. You may decide for yourself if that's what you did or no.

The point here is that Bob has admitted that he has broken the rules; that is not in question. The issue is that he felt a little put upon by you for taking his thread in a direction that was not conducive to his intentions (trading).

Bob has been warned for his part and I urge you to utilize the PMs next time you feel the need to let someone know the rules; don't do it publicly in the thread they created to trade their goods. It's just a common courtesy.

Become an admin, and Ill be fine with the post. BTW I tried to email you, bu t your email in your profile dosent work. Be courtious of others and only reply to a trade post with a trade offer. I realize I was infracting the rules, and Im sorry for that. But you changed the purpose of the thread, and now my trade offers on it may not come to fruition. But I dont want to start flaming each other, and this will be my last post on this thread. If you want to trade, PM me. If not, leave the thread alone.
BTW, how can you jack your own thread? Plus not like my bumps were not relavent. I just found additional things I needed to get rid of and posted them on my thread. So let the admins handle rules infractions, that what their here for, thats their purpose on the board, otherwise there would be no need for admins. My thread had purpose, which is gone, and I have to wait another week to repost a clean version of my ad.

Thanks,
Bobtheogre

P.S. To the admins:
If you could "purge" my thread of Posts that arnt mine, and possibly lock0 or delete this thread since the issue is settled, I would appreciate it so that this does not come to be a flaming board.

The issue really isnt settled. You are taking offense at me trying to be a good guy and help you out. Yeah I probably should have told you in PM but I wasnt thinking about that. I was thinking "Yay heres another guy that doesnt care about, or respect BT enough to read the rules". Had I not read the rules before I recently posted an Airsoft gun on here I would have gotten a severe warning or maybe a time out. As far as I am concerned you got off easy. You should appreciate that instead of throwing it in my face and making me look like a punk.

Also my email does work perfectly. Its the exact same one ive had for the last 5 years. Its an email my ISP provided me. I can send anyone email from it to prove that. I have no spam filters turned on either so thats no excuse. Jackal40k@cfu.net

here is a piece of advice, take it or leave it. but the only gripe i can here is because someone told you on the forum about replying to your own post to try to hide a bump? i guess that is it but why do it in the first place.
alot of traders when they see a posting has had replies they will ignore the thread, repost the ad.

thats about as bad as the posts that says "iv'e pmd you" or emailed.

my 2 cents worth

Okay, okay.

I reviewed older threads wherein other users warned people who'd violated rules of posting. This happens most often in the Bad Trader forum, but has happened in the trade forums as well.
Ergo, there is a precedent for user policing without reprisal from the mods.

The moderators are very easily identified by the subscript under the username - with the exception of the "Account Suspended" subscript. I personally prefer to have an active user community - otherwise jack@$$es like Ticknor would've gotten away with ripping at least 6 people off.

That said, here's my official decision:
1. Bobtheogre333: If you break the rules, someone will call you on it. Whether or not they have mod-ship doesn't matter provided they don't flame you (of which I will be the arbiter of flamage). If you don't like the fact that Btown has an active user community, or can't be bothered to read the rules of posting, leave.

2. OmniJackal: In the future, if you're going to call someone out please let one of the mods know ASAP. It's kinda like a citizen's arrest: The police need to get involved as quickly as possible.

No warnings on either side.

I'll be sure to Lin. Im not trying to do your job or anything. Its that I come here every day whether im buying anything or selling anything or not. Matter of fact I have a habit of checking the site 10-50 times a day. I cant help it.

Bobthegore, what Lin said contradicts your attitude in that email you finally sent me and confirms mine. Im really sorry you are mad but if you dont like it you know where the log off button is.

Now the issue is settled. Enjoy yourselves people
