possible paypal safety measure

Post by narceron »

Hello there, just posting a thought I had after speaking with a buddy of mine had.

He's a finance guy and asked if using paypal as a secondary precaution might work.

For example, anytime a trade is inititated, each party sends 1.00 dollar to the other guys paypal. Upon the completion of the trade, they both issue refunds. This way if one party does not comply with its end, bank fraud could be added to charges. Bank fraud is handled by the FBI(supposedly, like I said, I'm in my early stages here) since Paypal is a bank.

Any thoughts, ideas, would it work, would it not be worth the risk? Also, paypal requires a real address, so you can't really fake things as easily as they are faked now.

Like I said, just a thought, this is in its infancy in my mind, lol.

finance guy?

Post by MagickalMemories »

I do NOT mean this as an insult...
What kind of "finance guy" is he?

Anyone who works in banking can tell you that this would not work.

The exchange of ANY money along with the trade, so long as both parties kept to their original pact of refunding the cash, could not add in at all.

Trading would, in no way, shape, or form be included as bank fraud. Bank fraud follows a finite and clearly drawn set of rules.

We could exchange a buck, you could send me everything & I could refund your dollar. At that point, the fraud is not going to happen... unless, of course, you DON'T refund the dollar... then I could make claims of a broken deal by YOU and YOU would be in it for bank fraud.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

I think you might want to talk to you own bank, the exchange of goods or services with any inclusion of a federally insured institution meets the federal guidelines for fraud. It probably would not be anymore useful than mail fraud, but it would be one more agency you could call after calling the postal inspector(which only investigates scams and multiple fruad charges), the state police, the local police(in their area), and I guess whoever else you feel like calling.

I take no insult, I know nothing about these things, I deal with an entirely different governmental agency in my career field, lol. This was just what he was saying, but please, if you have any ideas, I'm sure everyone would love a more dependable trade system or any additions that add to that sense of security.

Paypal isn't a bank btw.

It's how they get away with all the underhanded crap they pull on their customers that a real bank would be breaking the law if they did.

I see, well, I was mistaken, I withdraw the idea and am seriously considering dropping paypal anyway, they do seem crooked as hell.

BUt just remember these two words, complicity and facilitation, lol. Paypal I'm sure knows what they mean.

Heres a good website to read some horror stories about Paypal, one of the most corrupt companies ever.

I remember once, a guy from Russia bought a video card from me. For some reason, the transaction was "suspicious" so they locked my account for over a month. I had like 800 dollars in there too. Turned out everything was ok in the end.

There is a reason they do this, and it's not because there was anything wrong with the transaction.
