i read up to the tau army redo part and couldnt be bothered to read more since it started going off topic,

but

in order for you to recoup your money back, you have few options.

1. post your add for it here weekly on b town and expect to hold onto it for a while, because the average person here is not looking for prepainted figs. they are looking for deals.

2. Ebay, either sell it all at once with a reserve bid or piece it out and hope you dont get hosed bad by holding onto some of your units.

3. Wait for a "convention" a friend of mine always makes his money back and then some at cons doing this same thing, he paints up armies/units and takes them and puts a price tag on them and comes home smiling.

"Cons" typically attract people that have money but not much that time. they go for a day and see whats out, whats new, and with all they eyecandy of new stuff or whatever, its easy to sell some things.

he sells terrain but noticed this past con he went to he figured he would sell the ruins he had for 10mm gaming, it didnt go, what went was the cryo and industrial equiptment terrain he had because no one else had it.

he goes to alot of historical cons which still attracts all sorts of gamers, but they dont typically have alot of 40 or WHFB vendors there, so you could have a good chance of getting rid of it for retail+ if you try a convention

here is a clinker to get rid of tau, there will be the effect of the "new army syndrome" coming up soon with the tau with the codex being rereleased soon.

so you can probly get rid of some of it, but expect to hold on to the pieces that are getting redone for a while longer.

esp with the sweet looks of some of the new pieces.

as for b town
typically the only way you will get retail here is in a trade and thats in equal condidition between the 2 parties trading.

selling the closest your going to get is 20%

my local game store gives 10% for walking in the door and i usually get an additional 10-20% more off if the deal is 100.00 or more pending on how much i spend. so 30% is about right here. i try to buy here first so GW gets less of my money.

i wont buy anything for the paint job, because if its a good paint job the whole army has to be painted, and i usually cant afford a whole army at once.

If i bought part i would have to match the paint job.
been there, done that, bought the t-shirt

most paint will get stripped so i usually ask the person to strip the figs before i get them if they are trying to sell the paint job, because i am not paying for paint. and if they dont want to strip them, the price just dropped yet again.

but all in all it ony depends on 2 things

1. how bad they want it
2. how bad you want to get rid of it

I prefer to trade pre-owned for pre-owned, so that fair price is 1:1. If I'm paying for or selling something, roughly 75% for sealed and 60% for open is expected. I consider 50% to be for pre-owned and painted, maybe something missing. For a junk model (broken, something used as a wreck or terrain), 30%.

That's just my opinion, though.
