Games Workshop loves its price rises. Didnt you know that? And hey, atleast they came out with alot of nice plastics while you were gone. Alot was more expensive as metal. So atleast many things have more options as well.
I follow the idea LOWER references ships/pays first. It keeps things safer for anyone, as I would never desire to have to start over again. Nor would I want to loose the trust of any fellow gamers. That is how I ended up with my reference collection! I always follow through with my deal!

I remember a tactical quad being 20 bucks, not 35. This drives me nuts. Forty buck tanks, forty buck land speeders? Land speeders suck! Where can I find cheap GW garbage. I want black templar but I will not pay $50 for a land raider crusader.

So, you say you were away 5 years.
That means you were around in 2004.
In 2003, we switched to the phpbb format. You'd have had to have had a User ID back then.
What was it?

lol, you've definitely been away for more than 5 years! i skipped 4th edition (it's 5th now) and before i did, I was shocked to see $10 metal terminators back then. welcome back!

Don't worry so much about terminators. What you need to do is look at the character that offers the power that tickles your fancy (Vulkan seems to be a favorite) and then spam his power like every other army out there becuase you want to be unique /Sarcasm
In my oppinion, yes the prices have gone up, but if you are determined to get back into the game, and are looking at space marines, the standard marine is not as bad off is it was in prior editions. Though it is still not back up to the 2nd ed glory of actually feeling elite.
Look at all the marine codexs first, you will find that different chapters now even have different effects on the wargear. (storm shields operate different for Dark Angles for example)
I do agree that the pricing has gotten outa hand, which is why many of us simply use places like BarterTown and the Warstore to get what we need. To be honest I haven't purchased directly from GW in several years. *Wait I take that back, I won 10$ at a tournament and had to spend 5$ to get a bike*
