Bad Trader: Matt Schmoll: Draggonogre

Post by djcasyun »

Unfortuanately, I need to write this as a result of a bad trade with Matt Schmoll. The email exchange follows. Basically, I sent him a MO for $40 for a night goblin box and a goblin chariot, he never sent the goods. There is no listing in the phone directory for a Matt Schmoll in Greendale WI or the surrounding areas. The only thing left is to file a police report.

How much for just the chariot? I may want both, but it depends on the outcome of an ebay aution that closes in 2 hours

Given that I have trading references, I'd prefer to send simultaneously. Feel free to check them out by clicking my name in the reply.

Otherwise, I'm good to go. By the way, I may have an extra empire great cannon. It's the older metal model, painted. Any interest? I'd trade it & $20 for the chariot & night goblins.

I'll take the two for $40.

Is postal money order OK?

Also, I noticed your bartertown ID has no references-not to be picky, but do you have any trading refrences?

My info is:

Doug Young
2358 Elester Court
San Jose CA 95124

I can send wednesday.

Are you still interested in the deal for the night gobbos and chariot? I realize you've been out a day or two, but there are other offers floating around on bartertown & ebay. Please let me know.

By the way, when did you send the stuff? Just curious; snail mail being what it is, it is probably in route, but knowing when it left will help me know when to expect it.

Given the amount of time that's gone by since the trade, please post them using Delivery Conformation and PM me the tracking number on monday. If I see that number and it checks out, & the minis get here on time, then I'll be glad to post a good trader ref ; things do happen.

OK, at this point, I have not recieved anything. As of Friday, Sept 9, I'll post you as a bad trader on this site unless EITHER a) I get the minitatures or b) I get an PM from with you with a confrmable delivery confirmation number. No excuses, please, just one or the other. I will also file a police report on it and your local authortites can take up the matter with you in person.

If you get me the minis or a conf # by friday, I'll forget the whole thing (assuming the conf # is followed by the minis).

OK, I just called your town of Greendale and there is no Matt Schmoll in the directory. I am now 90% convinced you're ripping me off. As I said, I'm willing to let things be if you get me the mini's or a conf # by friday, but if they don't, the police WILL be notified. Mail fraud is a felony. Please take a look at the bad trader section of this site-there is some info on the procedure to file a police report.

Don't know if this helps but I did a quick dogpile search and happened upon a Matt Schmoll that is on a team for the WI Chess Tournaments etc...

http://www.wischess.org/content/view/31/47/

he took 11th place on the Varsity board 5 crosstable...

That was posted back in 2000 but maybe he's still a minor.

Ok I dig about 5 minutes of digging and I found that the address above is legit and I searched it. I found Candlewick Apts close to that address and they told me that the apt building at 5035 is a private residential Apt BUT they DID confirm that a Matt Schmoll does live there.

So your next step is to use the info and call the local authorities AND USPS Mail Fraud.

Pain

Post by Ralph »

I feel your pain Doug. At some time or other, most experienced traders here on Btown have been through something similar. Unfortunately, I now have to ask all newbies to ship first. It's cost me some trades, but I've been down this road before.

The real shame is, from your emails, you really tried to be decent about it.

Anyway, you can file your USPS fraud complaint online:
https://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/f ... plaint.htm

Don't delay. If they at least send him a postcard informing him he's being investigated/placed on a 'watched' list, it may be enough to shake your money or models loose.

Good Luck

Hrmmm. Greendale....

This may be one of Ticknor's Aliases....
This is from http://trade.mahasamatman.com/7Sea/
Update 18 April 2005
One con artist has repeatedly registered under many assumed names and email addresses. He has gone by names such as Cain Davis, Jason Lee, Jason Ticknor, Jay Rome, Jeff Winters, Jerry Black, John Edwards, John Millar, John Winters, Josh Terry, Leroy Brown, Martin Esaman, Mystie Kiefer, Realish Hotdog, Thomas Davis, Tommy Harris, Tony Davis, Tori Smith, and Tyrone Williams with addresses in Greendale, Greenfield, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You can find more information, including the phone number for the Greendale Police Department here. I urge you all to exercise caution when trading with anyone, even someone you have successfully traded with in the past. He will often make one or two good trades with you, then reel you in. Basically, if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Please be sure to report any trading problems to me; I can't do anything if I don't know about it.

Wow.
Morlock.
Good digging to find all of that info on this gut.
The "Rawr" must really be strong within you.

As soon as I saw the phrase "Greendale, WI" my hackles rose.

Maybe there's a WI trader (some of the newbies who threw a fit in an earlier post about a joke could be good volunteers) could volunteer to drive by for a friendly visit.
I stress FRIENDLY here, folks. No need for violence.

1st of all, this is getting ridiculous. There is absolutely NO reason people should still be getting ripped off from WI addresses.

Protect yourselves, people!

Get educated, read the stickies!

2nd, I am redoubling my efforts. I'm going to start talking to legal advisors and such and seeing what can be done about this. It's getting ridiculous.

I'm through with this shite.
mon·ey: noun; a good that acts as a medium of exchange in transactions.
Money is a good like everything else; if your rating is lower, you ship first whether money is involved or not.
