9/19: Wildfire Update

Post by BITZJUNKIE »

Just so everyone is on the same page, I now have extended family living with me for the time being due to a wildfire that started over the weekend...

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=12497453

This will affect my timeframes until things are right side up and we get some feedback on the condition of the house and belongings. As living arrangements change, storage needs and pets / animals get situated, I only expect a slight to moderate shift in shipping or completion times. I will try my best to keep rolling projects out in as timely a manner as possible.

Terrain:
rwartell ork repair: on time, should ship by 9/21.

rwartell fantasy build: Timeline for completion moved from mid-October to Oct (10/1).

Imp522 epic 40k tables: I will be able to start shipping by 9/27.

Trashcan's Cryx terrain: no changes as of 9/21

Shadowopal's Malifaux set: no changes as of 9/21

Darktraveller777 praetorian set: delayed, but should be back on track by 9/25. Ideally shipping by 9/27.

Trades:
Van Saar bitz trade: I'll have specifics for the trade by this wednesday (9/22)

ProseDragon bitz trade: on time, shipping will occur within 2 weeks.

I'll know more as the week goes on and will update this thread when I can.

My apologies in advance!
Rick

Once again, top notch communication from "The Junkie!"

Curious: Your family or hers?

Thank you Eric... it's really nice to hear that.

Certainly this fire isn't the first and foremost in the nation or anything, but it did hit closer to home than the others across the U.S. It was her family; we're just glad we were close to be here for them  .

I'll go through the remainder of my pms asap and make sure I have everyone's trades and builds covered.

Hmph.

Hahaaa... damn in-laws!

9/21 Update: Fire is 25% under control.

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=12513662

The house (top middle, at 1:44 in the video) should be okay, but the fire did hit the property and created some losses. The home across the street and the one up from that were a complete loss.

I'm thinking there will be smoke damage as well, so this may be for the longer haul.

____________________________________________________________________

Added to the list:

Trades:
rwartell ork rebuild: Package leaves today at lunch as planned. I'll have the DC to you when I return.

Rocketsauce: Pictures for the SoB will be available soon.

Big O FoW set: Still in build. I'd like to have this out to you right after I can replenish some modeling needs (primarily paints). Should be able to get them this weekend.

All builds:
I'm still looking for the camera card with pics on it. I just hate to get a new one and then find the old one (40 bucks is 40 bucks after all... ).

I'm almost to the point of replacing the camera card. If I do not find the old one by payday (friday), I'll break down and get one then. I'd use a cellular camera, but with the detail I need the cells I've tried just can't get me close enough.

Sorry, I just can't "wing it" with a poor pic on a pic update  .

Misc:
In making room for some storage last night, I found a bunch of terrain in my personal collection that I will not have time to paint.

Once I have a camera card, I'll be taking pics of them too and placing them up for sale.

Fire is out and everyone was allowed back to their homes.

Their house is in good shape, but there is smoke damage throughout and heat damage to the front of the property (from the home across the street.) In-laws will be with us for at least a month as insurance deals with things and contractors are able to work on things. We moved clothes and some personal items that they couldn't get out before, so my weekend allowed for some spotty work on projects.

I have cleared out this next Friday / Saturday / Sunday (Sept. 30 thru Oct. 2nd) for completing some urgent projects and pics will start filtering in tomorrow morning for updates that need them.

Terrain:
rwartell fantasy build: Still very close to the new timeline. I'd like to have this completed by this next weekend and sent sometime the following week - probably Friday (Oct. 8) as it's payday 8) .

Imp522 epic 40k tables: I'll pm you separately on your current needs!

Trashcan's Cryx terrain: My apologies for missing you on the original email for this. You weren't the only one  .The Cryx swamp ruins are complete and primered black (that will be your pic update). The rocky outcroppings are started (next update pic set) and I will finish the forest sections last. I'll paint them all at the same time and pour the water effects last. It'll need a few days to cure, so I am still aiming for the middle of October.

Shadowopal's Malifaux set: I've begun the first 3 Malifau buildings and will have pics of them as they are finished (the first will be complete this weekend, possibly all, and thus will be the next pic update). You pic update is of the watertower for now (and it's sweet!!!) All wood is unprimed, all else will be primed black ;).

Darktraveller777 praetorian set: And you also have my apologies for missing you on the original email for this. I had to wait on my molds for the lg maintenance facility. It's the final piece for assembly. I need to let it cure and then can place it and prime it. Your update will show the 3 tents, then the russ and lg vehicle maintence facility. I'll send out this next weekend. Everything primed gray as arranged!

Trades:
Van Saar bitz trade: For some reason, my pm doesn't show on my end, so I'll pm you again! Sorry if this is a repeat pm  !

ProseDragon bitz trade: SHIPPED Your converted dread buzzsaw arms and custom FT icons will be started next weekend and I'd like to complete and ship them the following weekend (payday 8) )

Pantsdown Necron trade: SHIPPED

Phoebus28 DE trade: SHIPPED

If I have missed someone or something, please pm me right away!

Glad to hear the (mostly) good news for your in-laws.
When moving back to MO from VA, we had a storage facility burn down with our stuff in it. VERY LITTLE survived. What *DID* survive stunk of fire/smoke.

Everything they can't wash should be laid out in the open to air out. Outside is best. Failing that, in a garage with the garage door open (all doors to for a cross-breeze, if possible) is second best. Paper goods and other permeable items will soak up that smoke odor like you wouldn't believe.

I couldn't get that smell out of my nose for WEEKS after sifting through the remnants of our stuff. That isn't even to mention the black "nose goblins."

Best of luck to your family!

Sounds like the insurance company will handle the clean-up. Hopefully they will pick a good cleaner to get that sooty smell out. I do know that cleaning companies that specialize in crime scene clean-up, are usually the best at getting out any type of smell.

@MM:

Thank you for the advice Eric.

I'll put it to good use tonight. Everything that we brought home on Sunday afternoon is still in the garage bacause the smell is just too strong still. In the meantime, they have bought some new clothing to get them through a few weeks.

I had forgotten that you had been through a fire as well  !

@Ironhide:

From my understanding, Camp Williams is taking care of handling and paying out all claims from the fire. I'm not sure if insurance would be involved further, but it sounded like the insurance or military will be using a good local disaster cleanup service to take care of things.

The worst on the front of the house is severe cracking and chipping of the stucco, along with a very noticable color change due to the heat and smoke (I presume.)

Hi all!

I was able to get through with little interruption this last weekend, so I'd daresay, things are looking decent. My apologies on the lateness of this update, but I do hope to have everything on track this week and next. Onto the project updates:

Terrain:
rwartell fantasy build: On time and shipping Oct 11-15. First set of build pics updated and the next set will be updated tomorrow morning (10/6). Final pic update will be around October 11th and just before shipping.

Imp522 epic 40k tables: Pics forthcoming (obviously, a killer week)!

Trashcan's Cryx terrain: Pics of the ruins and Cryxian ore outcroppings are updated and the forests are on the docket for this weekend (Oct 9th) I'll paint them all at the same time and pour the water effects last. It'll need a few days to cure, so I am still aiming for the middle of October.

Shadowopal's Malifaux set: Still building the first 3 buildings, but will still have pics on completion of each. Again, obviously, a killer week!

Darktraveller777 praetorian set: Pics of the large vehicle maintenance facility went up yesterday (with resin sliding ramps) and the other pics will follow soon as I've already burned through 2 sets of batteries on the camera  . I'll send the set out along with other projects this next week (Oct 11-15.)

Trades:
Van Saar bitz trade: Sent you an update email. just awaiting a response ;).

ProseDragon bitz trade: 1 buzzsaw dread arm complete and the next will be started this weekend from the second blank 8)

Just saw the pictures of the Praetorian terrain and it looks great! Can't wait to see those pieces in person. :)

Obviously, you're very busy.
I love the way you're keeping up with everything in this post.

Having seen what you have shipped and working on, however, I'm slightly worried. This stuff sounds so cool. Are you taking images so that you can show it all off, once you have the time to do so?
