Taking photos of minis?

Post by confoundo »

I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of old figs that have been in storage at my parents house for the last 10 years. I tried taking some pics with my wife's digital camera, but they didn't come out too well. Can anyone give me some tips on what to do?

Thanks!

Photo tips

One way to better the results is to place the mini's on a white surface and background. Also you could take the photo's outside with the sun at your back if the problem is lighting.

You may want to add a photo that you took so we can see what is going wrong with it.

Nevermind. I think I figured out what my problem was - I wasn't holding the camera still enough. Now that I've braced it against something, the pics are coming out much better.

don't use a white background. use black. white reflects the light back at the camera. black absorbs it. use a bright light behind tthe camera. use a tripod or some type of stand to brace it. use the maximum resoultion and then have photobucket or ebay automatically shrink it to fit. keep the camera close, under 12'. zoom in so the entire mini fills the shot.

here's painted. prmied white or bare metal. you can see more detail.

here's some of mine using that same procedure.

white only works on dark minis and then you have to move the light around.

here's black on black. the primer is so dark i used baby powder to bring out the detail. sorta like drybrushing, but using kleenex.
