separate GW specialist games forums
Could we get separate forums for Epic/Warmaster/Necromunda/BFG and the rest again? Yes, there was a limited number of posts in them, but it couldn't have been much less than some of the "Other Stuff" forum posts.

Re: separate GW specialist games forums
In all honesty, that is unlikely to happen.
Two things drive our decision making process when determining what we do and do not have specialized forums for:
1) Does is get enough traffic to warrant a forum of its' own?
2) Is there somewhere it would be better served?
The "Other stuff" forums don't exist because they have a lot of traffic. They exist because there are no other forums they would be better suited to.
Bits, for example, don't have a good home elsewhere. Bits posts used to be far more common, typically clogging up the 40k & WHFB forums. Even still, it tends to cycle through bouts of heavy traffic. The Video and Board games are an excellent example. Both are too small to exist individually, and don't belong anywhere else. They were not combined because they go together, but because neither could support a forum by itself.
We really do give a lot of thought into the layout of the site and, with the heavy model crossover GW is seeing/about to see lately with Shadow War: Armageddon and Shadespire, and the lowered post count we were seeing in those forums, it just didn't make sense to keep them separate.
That said, please understand that we're always looking for trends and needs. If ANY game seems to need a spin-off forum of its' own, we'd gladly create one... but only based on need. That's not just GW. That is any game or manufacturer.
Thanks.

Re: separate GW specialist games forums
I definitely don't agree that the non 28mm stuff (Epic, Warmaster, BFG) is better served under 40k and Fantasy boards. They're getting lost in a deluge of the 28mm stuff. I checked in on those two forums daily for new posts. Now, with them being throw in with everything else I'm not bothering with it, I don't want to scan through the 30+ new posts for those I'm interested in. Having administered forums I can't see those two forums adding to the overhead and responsibilities in a significant way.

Re: separate GW specialist games forums
I have to agree with digiddydog here, it is painful to try to find non 28mm stuff in the other boards.
It might be worth noting that the ONLY reason I used bartertown was for the GW Other 40k and GW Other Fantasy boards so I noticed the change straight away.
Maybe I should just accept that bartertown is no longer useful for trading epic or warmaster items, is that what I am being led to believe?

Tom, we're not leading you anywhere. We leave you to make your own decisions and conclusions.
It comes down to site functionality. We need to do what's best for the site as a whole (not cost, but how it operates), how best to manage it from a manpower perspective, and what is best for the site (and members) as a whole, rather than a single subset or two.
That all being said, we ARE discussing privately (a) the idea of a new way to subdivide and structure the various forums and (b) what that subdivision/structure will look like.
The best I can do is reassure you all that Bartertown, as an entity, wants what's best for our member base as a whole, as we have since 1996 when TrademasterAdam first took the site live. We will not always make everyone happy, but we're always going to do OUR best to do what we think IS best for everyone or -when that's not possible- as many of our members as we can. All we can do -all we can ask- is that you guys understand and believe that this is our main interest.

Re: separate GW specialist games forums
On a personal level, I'd like to reiterate something I've been saying for well over 15 years now (long before I was ever a staff member), which is directed at anyone reading this and no User or Users in particular; please, keep in mind that Bartertown is free. No member is ever required to pay a fee to use the site, which has a noticeable overhead to keep running. Every staff member is a volunteer who donates his time, effort, and energy to keep the site running as a labor of love. The site sells advertising to businesses and offers Bartertown Plus memberships to those who'd like to help keep the site afloat. Those are what pays the bills. Nobody else is ever expected to give even a dime.
I think that, in return, we as members need to keep in mind that the people who run the site want it to run well. No decision is ever made for any other reason than what staff thinks is best, over all.
Thanks for reading.

Re: separate GW specialist games forums
Could we at least consider the scale as a separate forum under Fantasy Gaming? not game specific, not manufacturer specific. 6-10mm scale mini's contains a varied amount of very different games. I used to just be a watcher for warmaster and Man O'war games and bits and have seen them now gone and it makes me sad.
If I was just posting, I wouldn't know where to put warmaster because they are GW Fantasy but not WHFB or AOS. but miscellaneous - Fantasy contains everything from "Malifaux" to "Confrontation", so non GW fantasy.
I am just confused and feel like my time searching this site will now not return everything people have posted.

Re: separate GW specialist games forums
We're not going to drill it down to specificity of scale. That much I'm certain of. At that point, we delve into too many different shoots of "then how about 54 mm games?," etc.
As I said above, we ARE discussing privately (a) the idea of a new way to subdivide and structure the various forums and (b) what that subdivision/structure will look like. The subdivision would take into account the possibility of some games getting lost when combined with others, and possibly a whole new structuring entirely.
Of course, any changes would be posted in advance, as well as possible, for member inquiry and input.

To the OP: Well it would be more convenient for me if there were a "specialists" sub section, but to be fair, maybe I'm missing something, but if you just search for "warmaster" or "Epic" all related posts should pop up no matter where they are - is that not true?

Should be, but the only thing I'm getting on searches is a Gateway error Time Out. Could be because of where I am (Kuwait) and connectivity or lack thereof.jamshaman wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2017 5:10 amTo the OP: Well it would be more convenient for me if there were a "specialists" sub section, but to be fair, maybe I'm missing something, but if you just search for "warmaster" or "Epic" all related posts should pop up no matter where they are - is that not true?
