What exactly is Guild Ball?

Post by 3eland »

As the title states. What exactly is Guild Ball? I stumbled across it at the FLGS yesterday and the models looks really nice.

What is it. How do you guys find it? I am intrigued.

It's a bunch of guilds.
They play ball.

It looked (to me) that it was kind of a blood bowl substitute for a time when Blood Bowl was not readily available... but that is just a guess...

I think I did look at the minis for use in blood bowl at one time...

The board is very different, and I would think it is mechanically different... but in the vein of Blood Bowl.

Ah... I see more soccer vs I guess rugby would be more what Blood Bowl is... even though it looks like American football.

Hmm. Do the models come as a single, full sculpt or do you have to assemble them? I've seen the starter pack (or I think it's the starter pack) and its red and blue full sculpt models.

@MM - Hardy har har. LOL. Thanks for the link

@Wsott - Yeah I'm thinking you're right re: a game when BB barely had the fanbase it does now.

I guess I need to see if it's even popular around me. I know BB has gotten a lot more popular since GW started actually doing stuff for it.

Every model for the fisherman guild needed to be assembled from multiple pieces - and pinning them was a real pain in the ass. Can't speak of any of the other guilds though!

Okay cool. So there is the option.

I might just get them and assemble them for my collection. The models look great.

The newer boxes come as one-piece plastics, whereas the older pewter models were a little finicky.
It is nothing like Bloodbowl - soccer vs football at the very least.
It is very popular here - it has a strategic element that rivals WMH and the models are gorgeous. It doesn't really cater to campaign play the way that Bloodbowl does. Rather, it is a legitimately clever game with excellent synergies wherein various guilds play ball ;)

I don’t know A about you guys but at my FLGS the guild ball folks are, shall we say, weird even by “nerdy” standards. So I’m unsure about it. But from what I’ve seen, Rumbleslam looks like it would scratch the same itch and be more fun *Rick Flair voice* WOOOO
Reading a message and then taking days to respond is quite rude. I get busy schedules, I have one too; but if you have time to read a message, then you have the 30 seconds it takes to shoot a few sentences off.

Be polite. Respond to read messages in a timely manner.
