My first instinct is to go with more of a kitchen (full low cabinets, counter, higher shallower cabinets)- the render you have there looks like the big heavy wall of cabinets will be kinda' oppressive (unless, IDK, you did something to break up that surface).

Also, bright colors. Had a basement office and know that if you're spending a while there, the less dreary it looks, the better.
True, we love life, not because we are used to living but because we are used to loving. There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.

I expect honesty about models' conditions, thank you.

If I don't respond in a day or two, please check back, I've forgotten-sorry.

The cabinet dimensions are in part informed by the placement of physical plant--pipes, the furnaces, etc.

The cabinets along the north wall have 18"Dx40"H bases, a 10"H gap with display space, and then 12"Dx30"H uppers, in part to address the exact issue you raise.

The rest of the cabinets ares 32"Dx80"H and I do agree that they will be a little...monolithic--but I have assessed that this should just fit everything I need to store--not only game stuff, but my tools, tablesaw, shopvac etc.

I'm leaning towards white finishes ultimately in order to help combat the "cave" predisposition of basement spaces.
