Thoughts on my Death Guard/Nurgle CSM idea.

Post by 3eland »

Hey Btowners,

So I have a bunch of CSM and I have started to favour towards the Nurgle scene. I am redoing the entire army (part of this is for the Btown Painting Challenge) and had an idea.

I love Death guard. The look, the paint scheme, the idea, everything. I would love to make a Death Guard army.

What I was thinking was getting the upgrade kits from FW, taking my CSM and converting them. That way I would have my Death Guard army and my Nurgle CSM army (well modern Death Guard Nurgle army). I enjoy the hobby side of wargaming and so kit bashing my already assembled marines wouldn't be much of a problem for me (it would be fun actually).

My biggest question however revolves around Nurgle himself. All Nurgle armies have the death-sick looking theme. Boils, disease, bloating, etc. I noticed that the Terminator Death Guard upgrade kit showed heavy disease factor, and you can get a Plague Marine looking Death Guard Tac kit. So, how far along would I be able to take the army before it looked more Nurge than Guard (or vice versa)? I am converting a homemade Titan into Nurgle (I made it for my wife when she had Grey Knights and so since she rid them I get to Nurglify it) and it is going to have a lot of green stuff work (boils, bloatyness, etc) so I do not want it to look out of place either.

I would love to buy the Death Guard straight from Forgeworld but this way gives me both and still the nice look (and it's cheaper). I would still get the characters, the Deathshroud, wardens and probably the bikes (because they look so much better than 40k bikers).

Thoughts? Suggestions? opinions?

Thanks all,

Ryan

To be clear--are you looking at doing pre-Heresy, pre-Fall Death Guard?

Or mid-fall Death Guard?

Which is the off-white armour with green shoulderpads? Pre-Heresy I think?

Thinking this colour scheme (I love it):

Have you looked at the Pre-Heresy-Post-Heresy Death Guard army on BoLS?

No I have not, is there a quick link? I don't venture to BoLS often so not entirely sure how I would find it.

Awesome thanks.

Very cool army. I didn't see much mutation though. Is it uncommon?

He has some pretty Nurgley stuff built up as well, if you browse through all the articles. Some of his vehicles are especially impressive.
