You must be the only 1 still in Canada, going by the plates I see on cars and motorhomes down here.
That's probably why you can't get any services. ;-)
I'm still here too, but I leave for NOLA tomorrow morning. :)

It's raining. 5-6 inches an hour. 1 place just got 12.7 inches today. cars are stranded in the street.
A flood warning from the national weather service. 1-2 feet of standing water in some areas.

at least snow stacks. gators and water moccasins don't swim/live in snow.

From the local weather forcaster:

"Thank goodness it doesn't snow in our viewing area.

Interesting fact. One inch of rain would be roughly 10" if it fell as snow. So the 8" of rain today would have been almost 7 feet of snow."

WTF?

Actually, depending on the temperature, it can be even more than that.

Brought my kids to school today (finally, snow was keeping them on holidays)... The big parking lot of the school had all it's snow for the last month blown over a fence onto the soccer field. Now there is like a 10 foot snow bank lol, it was awesome.

EDIT: And by snow bank I mean it was huge, easily 20 feet both ways with all the snow, and since it was blown over a fence it just dropped... Dangerous for the kids but man I want to go back with a crazy carpet!

Final rain falls. One area had 22.21 inches of rain...overnight. Another had 17 inches.
There were 2 drownings. 1 old guy oth for a walk, his cane slipped and he fell and drown.
The other drove into what she thought was just standing water.. it was a drainage retention pond.

The heavy rain was only across a 20 mile wide area.

The drainage is graded to drain about 2 inches per hour, once it stops raining.

She drove into a retention pond? Was there no signs saying "Hey, this is a retention pond, take caution"?

umm.. in Florida.. there are ponds everywhere. Remember, it's a swamp that's been drained.

The water has to go somewhere and the dirt/fill to raise the rest of the land has to come from somewhere.
Every 'development' was built the same way.

Every are that doesn't have a house/apartment/condo/building, has a pond.
The ponds are usually 10-40 feet from the road. When the water gets high, it's hard/impossible to see where the ponds start and the flooded road ends.
Is that water 6 inches high or 20 inches? For a 'flat' area, nothing is flat.
