Post by xSoulgrinderx »

Btown

A guy names Chris Zeigler, Aka Big Z on some trading sites, was paid to do a commission on a FW tau army. If you see any lots being sold with the following contents, please report this used to your mods and myself. A lawsuit has been filed and any further trading of these models, if a further act of fraud. Trade commission was started February 2016 and contact was lost late may. Anyone seen any of these models floating around should contact me and the moderators with any information they have.

He lives here and you should not send anything to this location is any user on any trading forum asks you to mail here.

Is this for a trade that originated here on BT? If so, you need to read and follow the rules for posting a BTR.

If not... you still need to read and follow the rules for posting a BTR.

Please, do so IMMEDIATELY.

If this is not for a trade originated here, please reply with that info.

Thank you.

Ben I am soooo sorry it's taken me this long to get back to you. It's been a rough few weeks. My family issues though aren't your problem though and this is strictly business, and on that end I've been failing and I apologize sincerely.

I'm going to need a touch more time, I won't lie I haven't touched a paint brush in a few weeks. My fiancee left me and I've been a bit of a wreck. To make up for the delay and the poor way I have handled this transaction on my end I would like to offer to finish the job and just call it even money wise. We'll figure out shipping/delivery as soon as it's done if that's cool. I still really want to deliver but we'll just have to see where it's at.

I know this commission has taken monumentally longer than anticipated and truthfully after my last year yours might be my last for a bit.

Sorry again for the delay.

Where is the proof it originated from Bartertown?

It looks like 3 emails to me. No beginning, no end, just three random emails.

Do you have PM's from Bartertown? If not, why not? What is his name here? I searched both Chris Zeigler and Big Z and did not find anything.

3 emails two months ago does not show us anything.

We need more information. Please update us with everything.

Thanks,

Ryan

Package shipped, should be there Saturday. Middle section is just light sponge chipping, green section is heavy sponge chipping and red section is hairspray chipping with mild rust effects. I didn't go through and finish the entire model, just did enough for you to get an idea.

Let me know what you think!

I really like the chipped effect on the Vindicators shield. I also have a serious drawing towards your Revnants grid sprayed shoulder/ wing details. Im looking for this type of effect on my tau. I have a tau compilation from which ive been drawing if you would like I can send you pictures to see what ive got in mind

Sounds good! I'm going to just grab some spare model parts (Gundam stuff) and paint em up for ya. No worries on returning it.

Have you looked through my Facebook page at all? And if yes did you see anything that grabbed your eye style or color wise?

3487 W 97th Ave Apt 27 Westminster CO 80031.

Would you be able to paint up something farsight themed? You have complete artistic freedom to change it up and instead of the boring ol' red n grey you could do Black and red, or Red and purple or whatever you feel like would work. If desired, you can send multiple of the same model (ill return all of these of course) to demonstrate your various schemes, techniques and styles.

Thoughts?

Mostly showcase for the eight and the Rvarna. The broadsides and the rest can be inbetween showcase and tabletop/

I typically charge per model but I can work within a budget. What level of paint are you expecting? Showcase, tabletop, somewhere in between?

Do you charge by models or by project?

I have the following I need painted: Budget is about 600-1200$

R-varna
2x Riptides - w/ magnetized options
9x FW broadsides
1x Regular Broadside
Custom built - The Eight (7 models minus the riptide mentioned above)
7x Stealth suits
50x Drones
1x hammerhead
10x pathfinders
1x Ageis Line w/ quad gun (non gw stuff)

Everything has custom resin bases so no flocking or basing is needed. Just paint.

Absolutely. I am all about communication. Skype, phone, whatever. I'm an artist but at the same time this is my business. I want you 100% happy when I ship these back to you.

So, here's an idea. Maybe have different bases reflect being in different parts of the city (maybe this is what you were already saying). Some with fire, some with water, some with sand and whatnot. That could be really cool and add a ton of visual interest to the army while still being uniform on the actual models.

Gotcha. I'll play around with them once I have em painted up. Probably use dry pigments on top of the gravel to give a nice dusty, worn down feeling to the cityscape. Maybe a touch of dead grass used very sparingly to look like it's growing on top of the ruins. The old and busted will contrast a ton vs the new hotness of your Tau.

With the basing, the gravel has to be laid, as the 3d printed support material I used is just acting as a base cencept. Rocks, sand, debris and other stuff needs to be piles neatly in corners to give these guys the look of moving through a ruined imperial city. Again, basing is completely up to you. But I think it should contrast against the black red and green dark colours.

I had an old friend who was going to do grey and orange. Cool concept, but I dont think its for me. The black and green does look sinister, but it would be cool if we could incorporate Farsight Red into there. Maybe make SS tau. Hahaaaaaaaaaaaa. damn ... now that I think about it. Nazi tau seems rude as hell and would look evil if done right.

Black and green might be a way to go. But dam... the whole Nazi Tau seems hilarious concept wise.

The barrel thing is super easy, no problems there and yeah that's just enamel sponge chipping. I can do that no problem and you will see an example of that on the sample I sent you. The hex pattern again is cake.

Honestly I think all we really need is a decision on paint scheme and this is good to go.

I'm a huge fan of grey and orange, it always looks great and I haven't seen Tau done in that scheme yet. I am going to end up doing my own army for Warmachine (Retribution of scyrah) in this same scheme eventually.

Super dark grey/black and green looks straight up sinister on the table and I could do some really cool OSL effects to make them look seriously evil.

Tan and red or tan and blue are a touch more traditional but look great together. Purple and light blue are totally non traditional but is a huge attention getter on the table.

I attached a picture but not sure how great those colors are going to look in it. Just a quick something thrown together to see if any of it grabs your attention.

Hi Ben! Sorry man its been stupid hectic on my end. I ended up moving this week. I apologize for the lack of communication, it's just been nuts with moving and the holidays and all that.

Howdy Ben, move went smoothish lol. About as smooth as a move can go. Holidays kicked my butt all over the place and my painting time has been several hurt. I figured the total time frame for your commission around 5-6 weeks total but between moving, the holidays and just how many damn models there are I'm obviously gonna have to stretch that a touch. My guess right now would be end of the month (being January, not today lol). I am going to try to have it done before that but I don't want to rush it either. I'm picky and I want them to look badass.

Sorry it taking so long, I had a commission I had to finish up before I could start on yours, had to move and then Christmas and all that. I'm not a fan of excuses but man I've had it stacked against me at the moment.

I'll be home on the 2nd and I'll get you a pic :) Have a great new years and again I apologize for the delay, I'll make sure it's worth it.

Subject: Check In - Tau Commission

Hi Chris,

I hope the move went smoothly and the painting easy. Have a pic by chance? =]

I was wondering what kind of time frame we are looking at for the commission?

This is an email of my final attempt to get into contact with him before i attempt to use legal matters to settle this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No worries at all and I am super sorry I had crappy communication. The holidays were just nuts and the move was incredibly unexpected, my lease was up and my landlord decided he was going to sell the house and gave us 2 weeks notice to vacate. Really uncool. Luckily we were able to find another place close by that worked but it was a total shock to us right before Christmas! During the move my best friend left the back of the moving truck open... All of your stuff was completely fine, I had brought it over in the back of my car days earlier, but a GW case full of painted Bones 1 miniatures I had just completed for a client was lost. I had literally just finished painting ALL of the Bones 1 Kickstarter for a guy and I lost 24 models after I had painted them and the money for those models was going to pay for my kids Christmas presents!
So, I got all those reordered, my customer was super cool about it and I got those repainted for him. Christmas was saved, happily ever after. Now last week my aunt dies so my mom was a wreck and right now my step dad is in ICU with a bleeding ulcer and he almost died. It has seriously been 1 thing after another and I am traditionally a drama free guy living a quiet peaceful life, so all of this out of nowhere really caught me off guard!
I apologize for the overshare and I totally realize that none of this is an excuse for me not taking a few minutes to snap some pictures. I've just been really distracted and keep getting pulled out of my studio for life stuff.
Things appear to be calming down (fingers crossed) and I plan on kicking ass on your commission and getting your faith back. I haven't had a disappointed customer yet and I hope you aren't my first.
My new address is:
200 ne 109th St
Kansas city, MO 64155
It's only about 5 miles from where I lived when you sent me the models. Oh! While I am thinking about it we need to figure out a plan of attack for getting all of this back to you in immaculate condition. Quite a few of your models were broken here and there when they arrived, mainly ankles and little pieces popped off, and I want to make sure absolutely none of that happens on the way back. Hell I might just drive them out there, I want to go hiking anyways.
Thanks for the email back and again I apologize,
Chris
Chris,
I appreciate the quick reply. I figured that something had come up, just didnt know what to expect. I apologize for the previous email.
I hope you see why I got frustrated. I didn't mean to blow up on you, but I did need you to provide some pics when you said you would several times. I just needed to know someone didnt just run off with my models. After hearing you had moved, I was kinda unnerved at first that you had moved away with the army, but let it slide. As several weeks of asking for pics passed, and nothing coming of it, I began to assume the worst that I was being dragged around.
Again, I dont mind waiting, as you still have till the end of Feburary to complete the task, I am totally fine with having a few small orders come in to secure your future painting business, again, I just wanted to know whats going on when every time I asked for pics and I didnt get anything.
I am sorry for your troubles and to make a mess of this. Thank you for understanding.
Ben
Dude I am super sorry. I'm at the hospital right now with my step dad but I'll get you some pics asap.
I knocked 25% off my normal price to get to the price point that you wanted with the understanding that I wasn't going to be able to knock it all out in one chunk and would have to work some other stuff in with it. It's a 4 week job and I can't live off $1200 a month. Hence the extended work period so I can fit in other stuff. I apologize if I didn't explain that better in the beginning but I swear if you went through our emails you would find that in there. I try to be as absolutely up front with people as I can.
Commission painting is a weird gig. If I just do what is in front of me at that moment I won't be in business long. I have to constantly have new work coming in and sometimes that means painting a demo piece for a collector so that when I am done with your Tau I have the next army on my door waiting to be painted. Also we had several gaps in communication from initial quote to the time it actually got shipped to me. During that time I had to take on other jobs to pay bills and I had to complete those before I could get started on yours.
Long story short, I am constantly juggling a ton of different things in order to make all my clients happy and still bring in enough money to keep the lights on. Add in stuff like holidays, family deaths and everything else that happens in life and unfortunately my juggling skills falter a little.
Regardless I do apologize for not having better communication in this process and I will do better going forward. I'll try to give you updates every few days to make you more comfortable with the process so that you know it's getting worked on.
Feel free to call me any time, if you don't have my number still it's 816-548-7783.
Thanks,
Chris
Chris,
It has been over a week since our last communicae. I was hoping for a pic or two to ease my mind, but sadly, I have received no such good news from you. I am beginning to become very worried about this commission, as it has been 2 months, and no pictures or progress have been sent. There have been moves, commissions done before mine, and unexpected delays with little to no notice, and zero fulfillment of promised pics.
Taking another commission for money before completing one and telling your client isnt a very good business model. I already feel very slighted that there have been unexpected delays with no communications, and that I have to be the one to reach out to you every single time to see if youre still there.
Normally, I am very patient and with given proper heads up, leiniant, but this is erring on the side of shady. I haven't heard or seen anything from a commission worth 1200$ (800$ paid so far) and over 2500$ in models. This is my official notification, that if I do not receive some form of update or notification that this commission is actually happening, that I will be forced to legal action to settle this matter.
I was hesitant to send out such a big order at once, as the loss would be devastating financially. I apologize for any rudeness portrayed in this notification, but I hope you understand that from my side: the communication has been one sided, I haven't received any updates as to delays, and I am worried about being delayed or losing communication for so long I get robbed. If you are working hard away at this project then feel free to disregard this email, but do send me something to ease my mind.
Thank you again for your time and understanding of my position in this trade.
Cheers,
Ben Allen
Oh no worries man, poke away. I'll get you some pics in the next couple of days. Honestly I hate shooting pics before I get models to a certain point of completion because they look like crap lol. I'll get you some though, I don't want to mess up which is which.
Sure. I took pics of everything in their formations before I sent them so I know what the full list looks like. Id be happy to answer any questions.
Sorry to have poke'd at ya again. Usually when I commission an artist I let them be. But at the beginning of the new year I heard mention of getting a few pics and hadn't, so figured I would check in again.
Howdy Ben, I need to send you a pic here in the net couple of days to make sure I have all the FE models correct before I start doing all the details and weathering on them.
Have you contacted the Police, made a report? Also, with the post office. Wire fraud, mail fraud, failure to provide service(its a thing).
Yes, and from what I found out, a Replievin lawsuit is what is next. (essentially failure to provide service) He still owes me 850$,
I got my models back at the threat of a lawsuit and police action, albiet, he totally shattered them into pieces. FW resin ball joints for broadsides are pretty much unfixable.
[Admin Edit] Stay on topic, please. No "something similar happened to be in a totally unrelated fashion" stories here. This thread should only be about this SPECIFIC issue. Thanks. [/Admin Edit]
Sorry, but I have been out of touch for 2+ weeks. just now back home and online.
You said this WAS a B-Town initiated deal, Right? I'm wondering why you haven't left a negative reference, then. It sounds like you got pretty royally hosed on this one.
Replevin gets you back personal property, not damages for breach of contract.
**UPDATE**
The artist has returned my models after a prolonged period without contact. We were able to regain communication and he is working to pay back the money owed from the comission deposit. Several hundred dollars are still owed.
The models have been returned, albeit, all of my then were crushed during shipping. This is up for dispute with the shipper, but with little more than a roll of toilet papers worth of packing, I'd say he could have done a better job packing them for return.
MODS, I kindly ask to have his address removed or blacked out or removed. His Brown id can stay.
