Re: New Trader - New York
Howdy.
Step 1: Read the rules. Seriously. Bartertown does things very specifically and most traders/buyers/sellers on here expect that you do things the same way.
Step 2: Re-read the rules, the FAQ, everything. Seriously. Best advice.
Step 3: Some people here are very brusque in their messaging; just assume it's the cold hard text and they aren't like that in real life - and even if they are, just bite your tongue a bit. No guns allowed inside Bartertown.
Step 4: Profit.

This list is designed to help you maximize your safety here.
1. Most folks operate on a 'lowest rating ships first' policy; get used to the idea of shipping first for a while.
2. For your first 10 trades or so, only work with people with high ratings (in the hundreds). You'll be shipping first anyway (see above) and most folks with a high rating are less likely to tarnish their reputation over a small trade.
3. Don't be afraid to do smaller trades. This will minimize your risk and at the same time get your rating up faster.
4. Always, always, always use tracking information. You need to be able to prove something got to its intended destination.
5. Package and protect your outgoing trades well. You would want the same in return. Receiving damaged trades is a huge hassle for everyone involved, so just skip that part altogether and protect your trades.
6. Document everything and keep records of your entire transaction. This will come in handy later if someone does try to rip you off.
7. Leave honest feedback. This helps the community as a whole. If you have negative feedback about someone, address it with them first and give them the opportunity to make things right (this should also be reflected in your feedback).
Hope this helps.
